MILES DAVIS STAN GETZ ET AL – CONCEPTION – PRESTIGE 7013 – NYC ADDRESS – DG – VG+/EX – MONO
This very early Prestige LP is a re-master of 10 inch material on Prestige Records. There are four musicians featured. The Lee Konitz sessions was recorded on March 8, 1951, featuring Konitz on alto, Miles Davis on trumpet, Sal Mosca on piano, Billy Bauer on guitar, Arnold Fishkin on bass and Max Roach on drums. They perform: EZZ-THETIC; ODJENAR, YESTERDAYS and HIBECK. The other session was recorded on March 13, 1951, featuring Lee Konitz on alto and Billy Bauer on guitar. Their selections are: INDIAN SUMMER and DUET FOR SAXOPHONE AND GUITAR. The Miles Davis material was recorded on October 5, 1951 and features Miles on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto, Sonny Rollins on tenor, Walter Bishop on piano, Tommy Potter on bass and Art Blakey on drums. They perform: CONCEPTION and MY OLD FLAME. The Stan Getz material was recorded on June 21, 1949 with Getz on tenor, Al Haig on piano, Gene Ramey on bass and Stan Levey on drums. They play PRESERVATION. The other session, on January 6, 1950, features Getz, Haig, Tommy Potter on bass and Roy Haynes on drums. They perform: INTOIT. The Gerry Mulligan material I MAY BE WRONG was recorded on March 15, 1950 with the Chubby Jackson Orchestra. SO WHAT was recorded on March 15, 1950 featuring Mulligan on baritone, Zoot Sims on tenor, Charlie Kennedy on alto, J.J. Johnson on trombone, Kai Winding on trombone, Tony Aless on piano, Chubby Jackson on bass and Don Lamond on drums. The label reads 446 W. 50th ST., N.Y.C. The initials “RVG” are stamped in the blank vinyl on both sides of the LP. This is a Deep Groove pressing and a MONO recording.
I have graded the vinyl as VG+ and the record jacket as EX for the following reasons. The vinyl on Side 1 has some surface noise due to marks on the vinyl. The vinyl on Side 2 is in EX condition, but that’s the name of the game. There are some marks around the spindle hole. The record jacket is in excellent condition, with only some slight sign of wear on the top seam and the bottom seam. There are no taped seams. There is very little discoloration.
