Mike Absalom – Mike Absalom, 1971 LP Vertigo 6360 053.

This is a decent but frustrating example of the LP Mike Absalom by Mike Absalom. It was released on the Vertigo label in 1971 – 6360 053. The record is in close to EX condition. There is one very small scuff-mark on the first track on the second side. I have just played it through and it does not sound. The reason I am using the grade ‘close to EX’ rather that specifically stating ‘EX’ is that there are a handful of quiet ‘ticks’ at the start of the first track on each side. Very minor – but I appreciate that with an LP like this I need to grade accurately. It is still in its original lined spiral / swirl inner-sleeve.

The reason I have only described it as ‘decent’ and also ‘frustrating’ is the six-panel non-laminated ‘poster’ cover. When I purchased this album I noticed that this one and all the other (20+) LPs with it all had the same problem. The original owner – who has neatly written his name by the top edge on one panel and also on the inner-sleeve, but not on the record – had done the same thing to all of them. He had put clear tape along all of the edges. Not to repair anything – but (I assume) to add strength. Over the years some of this has turned brown and some has fallen away. Some is still there. And where it has fallen away it has left some grainy residue. I have shown some of this in my pictures below. Obviously, this is not ideal. But there is nothing that I can do about it now. I just wish I could go back 46 years and shout at B Paisley (the written name on the cover) not to stick tape on all of his record covers! One panel has a couple of creases. There are a couple of very slight grazes by edges, where the tape is missing, but other than the written name I have already mentioned the cover has no rips, scribbles, stickers etc. In all the cover grades at least VG.
