Description
This is Marty Paich/The Broadway Bit. The first stereo release, 1959. Warner Bros. WS 1296.
Gold label with black and red printing. First pressing of the first stereo/Vitaphonic edition.
With "Copyright 1959, Warner Bros. Records, Inc." at bottom left of the front of the jacket.
CONDITION
Disk. Side one is visually MINT, but when played has some very low surface sound between tracks. Not audible during the music selections, even at high volume. So I would rate it as NM. Side 2 is not quite as good--still visually MINT or NEAR MINT but a little more surface noise between tracks, Still not audible during music selections. To be cautious I will rate this side VG++.
Of course--no visible scratches or marks.
Jacket. Some issues to top and spine edge--nothing visible affecting either the front or the back of the jacket. There are three 1/4 inch places on the spine where the paper has deteriorated. Top edge has three inches of the opening neatly torn at the top from the record being taken in and out over the years. See my photos for evaluation. I am going to call this VG+ for the jacket.
Inner sleeve. Older white sleeve is present but only "good."

During the 1950s, Paich was active in the West Coast as a jazz player and also worked intensively in the studios. THE BROADWAY BIT was taped in January 1959 (the exact recording date or dates are unknown), four years after Paich began recording under his own name. He not only played on, but arranged and produced numerous West Coast jazz recordings, including albums by Ray Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Terry Gibbs, Stan Kenton, Shelly Manne, Dave Pell, Anita O'Day, Art Pepper (one of the main soloists on THE BROADWAY BIT), and Mel Torme, among others. This is a legendary album for collectors.
