MOUNTAIN ''MOUNTAIN LIVE''

1st UK PRESS CAT No.ILPS 9199 (1971) NEAR MINT VINYL! NEAR MINT AUDIO! BARELY PLAYED MORE THAN A HANDFUL OF TIMES EVER! EARLIEST -1U-1U MATRIX! ''1'' to ''1'' MOTHERS!!

Another from my personal collection, purchased from new in 1971 original only played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover for protection. This is how I have always stored my records! This is a mega early original early UK pressing the vinyl boasts of being as very near as pristine condition throughout in my opinion!  Also the most important thing is the audio will blow you away absolutely stunning seperation throughout and a true bassey feel only found like this on the early pressings on the original pink rimed Island labels , cristal clear and very vibrant plays as new without any clicks, pops, ticks or crackle. The best that you can get in my personal opinion. This album in my opinion is a keeper, you will never need to upgrade from this vinyl!!

Mountain is an American hard rock band that formed in Long Island, New York in 1969. Originally comprising vocalist and guitarist Leslie West, bassist Felix Pappalardi and drummer N. D. Smart, the band broke up in 1972 before reuniting in 1974 and remaining active until today. Arguably best known for the song "Mississippi Queen", Mountain is one of many bands to be commonly credited as having influenced the development of heavy metal music in the 1970s!!

The band was formed shortly after Leslie West, formerly of the Long Island R&B band The Vagrants, recorded a solo album titled Mountain (a reference to West's one-time physical bulk) with bassist and former Cream collaborator Felix Pappalardi producing!!.

The album also featured former Remains drummer N.D. Smart. The album spotlighted West's raw vocals and melodic, bluesy guitar style, and Pappalardi's heavy and elegant bass lines were prominent throughout, and according to West when Pappalardi asked what would be next West suggested the pair go on the road!. Though heavily inspired by seminal British blues-rock band Cream (with which Pappalardi had been a frequent collaborator: he produced Disraeli Gears, Goodbye and Wheels of Fire, also contributing viola, brass, bells and organ to the latter), keyboardist Steve Knight was added. Naming themselves after West's album, West, Pappalardi, Smart, and Knight played shows on the West Coast before getting to play their fourth concert as a working band at the 1969 Woodstock Festival in Bethel, New York. Their first album as a band, Climbing!, would include a tribute to the festival, "For Yasgur's Farm." Mountain was received enthusiastically by the festival audience but the band did not appear in the film of the event, nor was their performance included on volume 1 of the festival's live album, though their performances of "Blood of the Sun" (from West's album) and "Theme for an Imaginary Western" (a song they planned to record for Climbing and co-written by former Cream bassist Jack Bruce) appeared on the second volume of Woodstock performances. Soon after Woodstock, Smart was replaced by Laurence "Corky" Laing. Climbing! was released in March 1970. It led off with what became the band's signature song, "Mississippi Queen", which reached #21!! .

Mountain began a hectic touring schedule in the middle of which they recorded a followup album, Nantucket Sleighride, released in January 1971. This album reached the #16, but failed to yield a hit single. The title track was used in the UK as the theme to ITV's Sunday political program Weekend World. After these early releases the band continued to receive a certain measure of critical acclaim but never again achieved great commercial success. After Nantucket Sleighride, the band produced Flowers of Evil consisting of one side of studio material and one live side, culled from a concert at New York's Fillmore East. Within a year, West has since cited a combination of drug abuse within the band and Pappalardi's road weariness and burgeoning hearing impairment as primary factors, Mountain broke up. This  live album featured, Mountain Live: The Road Goes Ever On, was issued in May 1971!!

Mountain Live: The Road Goes Ever On is the fourth album by hard rock band Mountain. Released following the band's first breakup in 1972, Windfall Records would compile the album using old live material. Mountain would later reform in 1974. The title comes from J. R. R. Tolkien's novel The Hobbit!.

The vinyl

The 1st thing to note! is that this is a mega thick and heavy original type of vinyl! Later press are much mor flimsier and less robust! The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable! and looks absolutely stunning!!

On initial inspection this looks near pristine in my opinion! It is hard for me to see any marks at all! In fact this has hardly ever been played at all! Perhapes a handfull of times by me personaly only! This has been stored in a case for the best part of 25 years! Any marks that could possibly be seen under a strong light would be sleeve removal marks only!! THE AUDIO IS TRULLY AWESOME YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER SOUINDING UK PRESS COPY! TOP! TOP! AUDIO ON ALL FREQUENCIES!!!! (no) clicks pops or any grooveware what so ever!! NEVER NEED TO UPGRADE FROM THIS VINYL!! Audio graded at least excellent plus to near mint!

please note! I always add this disclaimer! Please allow for the light static crackle here and there (not) consistant throughout the audio! This is a genuine 39 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 39 year old system!

This vinyl has been stored in a case for the best part of 35 years and could benefit from a constant clean before each play! This would greatly reduce any static crackle and greatly enhance the audio quality!

The Labels

These are the original 1st issue Island (pink rimed) labels (only 1st press) I can't see any ware.  Any spidering seen angled to the light can be counted on one hand!!

The record Sleeve

This is the original Island blue paper record sleeve with  patent no. and 'Made in England' no splits or tares light fading only with age!

The Cover

This is the original 1st issue unlaminated cover in outstanding condition for 39 years old. These covers are very very hard to keep in good condition, these 1st issue covers are very prone to rubbing ware and creasing! There is no spits or tares, there is light general rubbing with age only a minor corner bumps at the corners at the top,  but very minor. The spine is nice and square this is in general nice and clean! Any creases are small generally minor only, nothing major and only realy noticed if looked for in my opinion. I would grade this cove at least excellent! Exceptional condition for 39 years old!
