Limited 50th Anniversary Edition On 180 GRAM Psychedelic Splatter Vinyl LP!
2021 Stereophile Magazine Record to Die For!
Originally released in 1968, this was the second Moody Blues album to feature Justin Hayward and John Lodge. In Search of the Lost Chord is a concept album around a broad theme of quest and discovery, including world exploration ("Dr. Livingstone, I Presume"), music and philosophy through the ages ("House of Four Doors"), lost love ("The Actor"), and spiritual development.
It's a late '60s concept album, a concept I dig when done right. It's electric-guitar-driven, but it includes 33 different instruments; it sounds ambitiously Beatles-esque in some places, brimming with youthful energy and ideas of a band on the cusp of greatness. The music offers lush, eardrum-caressing vocals and brilliantly inventive moments - darned if the intensifying, 45-second album opener, 'Departure,' a poem written and recited by band drummer Graeme Edge, wasn't the perfect prelude to the classic 'Ride My See-Saw.' The LP's sound is rich and warm. The cover, by artist Phil Travers, is a striking meditation on the concept of, well, meditation.

WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI/REPLICA-LP-SLEEVE" CD?
Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you.
Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics.
Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere.
Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded.
All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. This fact along with other latter features we've mentioned make these titles rare collectibles that sell in the collectors markets for $100's of dollars apiece.
THESE 2002 ISSUES WERE LIMITED TO 5,000 PIECES WORLDWIDE Japanese reissue of the British rock icon's 1970 album it's packaged in a miniature LP sleeve
IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD -
This is one of the group’s finest pop-psychodelia recordings. Incorporating sound effects like creaking doors, explosions and everything a 1960’s mellotron could do, this experience is as close to what an acid trip must be.
After the grand experiment with a symphonic orchestra of DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moody Blues and the producer Tony Clarke lock themselves in the studio in 1968 to create a magnificent musical expedition across the mind. “Legend Of A Mind” is maybe the highest point flute player Ray Thomas has ever reached as a songwriter.
The part with the flute solo leaves you standing naked in the middle of a field embracing nature with your open arms, and the intense ending leads you through a speed-of-light journey across your dreams and feelings. “Ride4 My See-Saw” is a standard concert encore and “Dr. Livingstone” soars from simple pop rock to fast paced rock and roll with enough bridges and changes to satisfy any mind. “Voices In The Sky” is Justin Hayward’s beautiful ballard contribution and “The Actor” is nothing short of plaintive, soul searching -- the harmonies are incredible.
