PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. SPEED GLUE & SHINKI were a world-class rated HEAVY guitar trio - in direct vein of CREAM ...an not a copy band but rather inspired by, drawing up their own devastating & dominating heavy psych rock, blasting guitar propelled. If you dig Blues Creation, Too Much, Strawberry Path, Juan Dela Cruz, Shinki Chen & Friends and of course CREAM, then this is for you!
Incidentally, nice copies such as this survivor are few and far between, there are currently NO original copies (in ANY condition) listed on eBay and only a couple listed (in similar condition as this copy) over on Discogs, with price tags running $1200.00+ to $3500.00+ ... take your pick :)
A little overview::::
After "Food Brain" broke up, Shinki Chen (guitars), simultaneously produced his solo work on the also famous "Shinki Chen & His Friends," then introduced to Atlantic Records Japan by Ikuzo. So guitarist Shinki Chen and bassist Masayoshi Louise Louis Kabe, a former Food Brain band mate, were trying to create a novel heavy-rock project when they discovered Joey Smith, an English singing drummer.
Shinki and Masayoshi, fascinated by Joey's skill of drumming and his Occidental appearance and vocal flavour, persuaded him to lead an important part of their project.
"Speed, Glue and Shinki", named by Shinki from each of their nicknames, took off and started an outstanding - but all to brief career.
In a short time they produced two albums - Eve (1971) and an eponymous double LP (1972). Most of the songs were written and sung by Joey, looking up to Ginger Baker as one of his drumming teachers. The members respected Eric Clapton and Cream, therefore it was natural that their production was heavy, bluesy and psychedelic.
If you've ever wondered how drugs could influence rock artists, you might consider some of the answers within this album. The first track is named "Mr. Walking Drugstore Man." The dangerous flavor within is enough for the listener to literally to feel the drug culture. Yes, vocalist Joey Smith's nickname was 'Speed'. From the beginning, massively heavy bass & drums are rumbling backdrops to the dirty distortion and sneaky guitar attack....the last bit of the track reveals Joey asking in whisper 'Hey, you wanna buy some speed, you wanna buy the speed?" Even by today's 'anything goes' attitude, it's amazing to hear lyrics 45 years ago possessed by SPEED. We can only suggest the song is articulated not in their 'tripping' but in their 'desire for tripping'. That is, the track is not meant to be a freak-out or another-dimensional meaning but rather a serious and strict heavy blues creation. The other tracks displayed are of the same style and element ...the lyrics are more or less the bands mischief in getting such lyrics past the strict Japanese speaking censors, who apparently didn't understand the meaning of these songs in English language. None-the-less the tracks on both sides display an amazing effort of rampant, violent progressions by Speed Glue & Shinki. The only variation comes with the last track, "Someday We'll All Fall Down" which is a hazy drifting comedown from the intense heavy blues trip the listener has absorbed.
