Description
Southern boogie rockers Molly Hatchet used artist Frank Frazzetta and his artwork for their first three album covers. The debut self-titled album, the second album called 'Flirtin' With Disaster', and their third LP titled 'Beatin' the Odds' all had Frazzetta artwork on the covers. Frank Frazzetta has also done album covers for Roy Orbison, Herman's Hermits, Nazareth, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Wolfmother, among others. Frazzetta passed away in 2010. (RIP Frank. You did some truly incredible artwork in your lifetime. Art that will live on forever!)
In 1979, Molly Hatchet released their second and most successful album in 1979, and called it 'Flirtin' With Disaster', also the name of the big hit on this LP. There had a minor hit with the remake of a Bobby Womack song ("It's All Over Now"), but everyone knows "Flirtin' With Disaster''! The third album, 'Beatin' the Odds', also features Frazzetta artwork, and was the last Molly Hatchet album to do so.
'Beatin' the Odds' was released in 1980, and was the first to feature new singer Jimmy Farrar, who replaced Danny Joe Brown. Sadly, the lineup for these first three Molly Hatchet albums have all passed away. (RIP Danny Joe, Dave, Duane, Bruce, Steve, Banner, and Jimmy. You guys helped put southern rock on the map, and made some awesome music. Yall are missed!)
In today's rockin' good deal, you'll get not one, not two, but THREE Frank Frazetta picture disc LPs! First up is a copy of 'Flirtin' With Disaster', by Molly Hatchet. Same pic on both sides. Unfortunately, the original die-cut sleeve is no longer available. Comes in a generic white sleeve. Vinyl looks great, and all I see are a few very, very light surface marks on it. No scratches, gouges, or scuffs! (Remember, pic discs from the 70s and 80s usually sound terrible, and have a lot of surface noise.) I cannot vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl, such as pic discs and colored records. But a sweet vintage collectible, nonetheless!
Next up is the third release from Molly Hatchet, and the 'Beatin' the Odds' album. This comes in its original die-cut sleeve, and has song titles, credits, and band pics (in front of a crowd!) on the B side. This too has only a few light surface marks on it, but no scratches, gouges, or scuffs. Same pic on both sides. Die-cut sleeve looking pretty good for something that's FORTY THREE years old!
And we'll finish off this awesome deal today with a Frank Frazzetta picture disc compilation! Featuring some bands I know, and some I've never heard of. (I know of all of the A side bands, but none of the B side bands!) Looks like this is a Metal Blade Records release, from 2016. And it's Frazzetta art on both sides! (Just glancing at this, you can tell it's Frank!) Bought new and never played. In its original clear PVC jacket!
For fans of Frank Frazzetta and/or Molly Hatchet. Or collectors of vintage rock and roll records. Or people who love the merging of art and music into that wonderful world of vinyl picture discs! With the holidays pounding on our door, we all need all the great gift ideas we can get, right? 🎄 🎸 🤘
