I've been selling records since 1977, first as a mail order business and then through Goldmine's record collector magazine, long before the Internet arrived in the 90's. That's 42 years experience.
Here we have a truly rare record on the Magic Lamp Records label, from an independent record label out of a garage recording studio in North Hollywood, California. It was located on Ethel Avenue, just a couple of blocks down from Roscoe Boulevard, and owned and operated by the late Joe Osborn, a session musician who played the bass guitar.
This 45 RPM record, "I Can Live Without You / I Thought I Could" by the late Mickey Jones and the Triumphs, features a 16-year-old Karen Carpenter on background vocals, confirmed by Jones himself. Both Karen and brother Richard Carpenter were still virtual unknowns in 1966 when this record was pressed.
I have dozens of Magic Lamp singles in my collection and I have never played this particular record that I am offering for sale. So I can't tell you how the sound quality is. Visually it looks in very good condition, but here's the deal:
Any record with the late, great Karen Carpenter on background vocals is a record to be treasured, and so it is being sold as a collectible and AS IS. If you buy it and you're not happy with the sound I'm sorry but it's non-returnable, as noted in this listing.
Please also note this record has a drill hole in it, the first Magic Lamp record I've ever come across since 1980 to have one. Also, the white paper sleeve has writing on it from the record dealer I purchased it from.
