METALLICA…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, 1988 Original US First Press ELEKTRA 60812-1. ALSO a Gold-Stamped Special Promo, record labels also labeled Promotional Copies. AND PRESSED ON AUDIOPHILE VINYL! 2-LP record set, all 4 sides of the 2 records NEAR MINT, Jacket and 2 color picture sleeves with photos and song lyrics, all NEAR MINT (NM/M-) also. I pulled this out of my “VINYL VAULT,” this is a very fine Metallica Album, that goes without saying, but a RARE COLLECTIBLE, being an original 1988 Gold-Stamped Promotional Copy—both records ALSO BEING PRESSED back in 1988 on AUDIOPHILE VINYL. Audiophile vinyl pressings back then were rare compared to today, where many modern reissues of albums are being pressed on Auidiophile vinyl, 180-200 gram.

Please see all photos and all details above in Item Specifics. Including the Matrix Number in the “Dead-Wax” of the four sides of the vinyl. Due to spacing restrictions, I put the Matrix Number for Record 1, Side 1 in this section. The others differ only slightly, of course: Record 2 side 2 after 60812 has “-B” then record 2 has C and D for each side. After these ABCD side-letters, each Dead Wax Matrix Number area also has “-DMM-2” except side D which has “-DMM-1.” Lol not sure why side D has the 1 and although my eyes are not good anymore, I’ve been very careful to give you guys the correct numbers. (Ok so it took me a while but I got them!!). LASTLY as-far-as Matrix Dead Wax “Details” (issues?!) we have on each record the same, “SPI-1 MASTERDISK.” Trust me these Matrix Numbers were / are extremely important. For record production and pressing (perhaps why my eyes are shot now—many years reading these!) BUT as the BIG “SERIOUSLY-SERIOUS”Collectors will tell you, they DISTINCTLY IDENTIFY a particular “Selection / Catalog Number” but sometimes most-importantly, THE RELEASE VERSION / Pressing of a record or CD. Of course these Purest Guys and Girls MAY NOT be so-quick to tell you exactly what all of these markings mean. [[Sometimes you will see cool stuff in the Dead-Wax like, “Love to Amy” or other unusual things. I was looking at one the other day, it said “Bill never mind that last remark” or similar. I have been stumped plenty of times, no worries, I have a record here that was changed in the first pressings, where part of a song “medley type song” had PART removed early-on. The jacket spine is supposedly one way to tell the difference, but also the Matrix. This matrix on that record, it has the numbers crossed-out otherwise they are correct for the FIRST VERSION; but they did not then write the new Matrix #. The jacket spine is correct for 2nd version. It’s an early Joe Walsh James Gang album—“Funky!!”]]. I picked this Metallica up years ago, I have never seen another one offered anywhere. And a Promo on Audiophile vinyl I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one from any Artist, certainly not in the 1980s and 1990s or 2000s. The Jacket includes the two “Hype Stickers” as-well, has the Gold Stamp Promo stamping on the back of the jacket, and has a small “saw-cut.” This is original vintage US 1998, NOT one of several commonly-seen today Imports / 45-rpm 12” records / New Walmart colored disc versions, new Audiophile pressings, or any other reissues either United States, UK or other foreign pressing. Also NOT pulled from a box set, we see this too. Nothing wrong with these types of issues, they are all great albums and music, it is just than many of us are “Purests.”If you are really serious about Metallica and Vinyl Collecting today, this is a GEM! I never grade above NM, but these two 33 rpm records are GLOSSY AND BEAUTIFUL, just-about MINT. The Promotional Jacket is certainly NM and has the stickers (promos never had shrink wrap they put the stickers, if they did, right on the jacket itself. You don’t often see stickers on promos or DJ copies in any case.)

First album with Jason Newsted on Bass—Bassist Cliff Burton dying in 1986. I don’t need to tell you, Jason fit like a glove with these Boys and their music. I was a teenager when this album came out, I remember it well. Take a look at the Guys in the photos—they look quite different than most people today have seen them. They were all pretty young then. (As was myself!! Lol!!). “Thrash Metal” many called METALLICA in the early years, and with And Justice For All, they are beginning to move to “Mainstream Acceptance.” Progressive Metal in its formative years. Promotional and DJ radio-station copies of groups like Metallica were not commonly seen in the days when these heavy hitter groups did not yet get much air-play. These are the days too, before or just starting, of “PA” “Parental Advisory” stickers and labeling (a failed venture LOL I remember the entire concept, such as Mrs. Al Gore advocating such labeling (lol Republicans had their Nancy Reagan with “Just Say No” to drugs!). Those of you who know me know that not only have I been a lifelong Vinyl Lover, but I also worked in the Industry. I worked for years with vinyl records including 45 rpm, CDs, cassette tapes, VHS tapes, even RCA’s Video Laser Discs. NOT with 8-tracks but I have seen the “parts and components “ at my old job, and I certainly remember the tapes being used when I was a child. What this all means is, I can be trusted in my listings, as I know the labels, releases, dates, etc. My descriptions and GRADING I take very seriously.

One more thing, this great jacket cover was designed by Steve Gorman, the concept being Lars and James’s. “Lady Liberty” is bound in ropes and is being pulled to breaking-point. Dollar bills are on her scales piled-up. You’ve got the ropes and this marble/granite so the artwork has a realistic weathered/worn look to it, like old statues and monuments. The album title is from The Pledge of Allegiance, of course. I well-remember the song, “ONE!” And here, we were actually hearing it on the radio LOL. This jacket cover artwork concept, let me tell you, and the “theme” of the album itself, was VERY fitting for “The Big 80s” and this crazy decade coming to a close. 1987 was of course, the 200th Anniversary of the Constitution. 1986 was 100 years of The Statue of Liberty. So there’s the Big 80s era of MONEY MONEY MONEY, Cocaine, this techno pop and pop music, a crazy world of waiting for nuclear bombs, etc. The early 1980s saw METAL coming-of-age. In a whole unique new way. (I remember critics of the Bass with this album but I chalk that up to new man , Jason Newsted. People always act like this when someone is replaced. Jason has certainly proven himself. These guys ALL HAD TO, in a way. James, Lars. So this is a bit different than Ride the Lighting and Kill ‘em All, but it’s no “Black Album” either!

Sorry for the “long diatribe”’ haha! I LOVE TALKING about this stuff! So glad vinyl is so popular now, believe me it should be.
