Description
This is an album which is in itself extremely RARE, but as a WHITE LABEL PROMO it is nearly impossible to find. The vinyl is NEAR MINT, with only a couple of inaudible hairlines; there is no surface noise, although Limelight is not known for the high quality of its pressings. They were a budget label of Mercury, on which a lot of weird and experimental stuff was tried - like Pierre Henri etc. Some of the offerings were brilliant - like this one. The music is pure, anadultered psych with sitar, guitars, harps, jaltarang, organ, piano, drums, steel drum, gong, chimes, flute, bass, celeste, claves, tabla, tamboura and - oh yes : voice. "No written music or scores were used during the recording of this album. The music, therefore, was spontaneous, the overall structure of each piece being selected just prior to, during or after the actual recording. During the recording, no retakes were made; each peice was performed only once." You would think that the music would be free- form, off the wall cacaphonia, but it SOUNDS GREAT ! You can tell that it was tailored by classically trained musicians, who - although they are improvising - are pretty much in charge of what they're doing. The pieces are like moody ragas in a pallet of sounds - very soothing and calming to the senses and at the same time quite uplifting. And it's bleeding RARE !!! The textured cover is a definite EX, with only the slightest of edge and corner wear. There is no wear worth mentioning at the opening. The period art work is very impressive. On the front you can see the artist taking a hit from what looks like a cigarette - yeah, right ! The promo white label is MINT, with NO SPINDLE WEAR and only a couple of spindle marks.
