Meic Stevens (Newyddion Da ND 1) 1970
Here's a beautiful copy of the Crown Jewel of any UK acid folk collection – Meic’s legendary mini-LP, pressed in tiny numbers on his own private label and given away at one gig in the summer of 1970. Not only is it Meic’s rarest record, it’s also one of the rarest records in the world, with a 5-discs rarity rating in Hans Pokora’s book. Musically it’s easily the equal of his Outlander LP (issued that April), and combines blistering hard rock with ballads that strongly remind me of Tim Buckley’s Blue Afternoon. Very few copies are known to have survived.
SLEEVE
The fragile sleeve is in solid VG+ condition, with minor staining to the top of the back and tiny corner cuts to the top and bottom left-hand edges. The glue has come unstuck, so the winning bidder might want to stick it back together. The pictures here will give you a clear idea of how it looks.
VINYL
Graded under direct light, the glossy disc is in incredible EX shape, and looks barely played. The labels are in great shape too, though someone has initialled side two (see scan). It’s hard to believe you’ll ever get a chance to acquire a better copy. The only other one I have ever seen is in my collection and going nowhere!
