Description
Maija: The Voice (Bluebird)
From 1980, this is a fantastic Finnish funky jazz lp with a sound very similar to Kitty Winter's best work in Germany. Music is by Heikki Sarmanto, but the vocal performance is my Maija Hapuoja, singing only wordless scat vocals on the whole lp. Wonderful stuff, very very funky and soo imaginative. Ranging to dreamy tunes to full-on dancefloor numbers and sounds very much like the 70's with loads of fat rhodes piano and crisp drums all over. Includes the amazingly funky scat bossa piece "April Morning", but also many other great tracks. And..it's very very rare.
