This record was part of my father’s vast, personal collection, Jay Monroe Sr. This record has been extremely well cared for and stored properly. My father collected records for over 60 years amassing thousands of records on labels such as Sun, Chess, Checker, Duke, Excello, Imperial, Meteor, Modern and RPM to name a few. He also collected obscure labels and pre and post war records. His focus was 50’s blues, R&B/Soul and Rockabilly but extended into Country, Gospel, Vocal and Jazz. I am not a record flipper, I’m trying to do right by my father and his life’s work. I am auctioning his collection, and his only, so others can appreciate 60+ years of work tracking down these rare records in the best possible conditions. I DO NOT OWN a “degritter” or other mechanical disc cleaner, they are as my father properly stored them. The records are photographed with my phone, no filters, so there may be some reflections. Record Details and Description: I will upgrade shipping to USPS priority at no additional charge. Please check zip code to see if it will get there from mine, 08525 in time for christmas. It ships in an LP specific box that is 2” thick and 4” deep with cardboard, mini bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts. I’ve sent out three since last week w/o issue. The spindle hole shows how little this original first pressing LP was played. I took as many detailed pictures as I could as I know the importance of not only the record itself but the cardboard cover etc. I rated the cover “G” but it is more towards VG-. The spine is “frayed” but not split. The tape was apparently for reinforcement on the spine and to seal up small splits on the outside edges. Better than most I’ve seen. I will be listing many more original first pressing LP’s from my father’s collection including “1 & 2 S” Elvis LP’s. All of his LP’s were properly stored with the inner sleeve/record behind the cover in a plastic sleeve.

GRADE: VG+ vinyl. The cardboard cover has tape re-enforcing the spine. The tape on the front edges are holding two splits about 1/2” long top and bottom. The gloss still remains and I had a collector want to buy the cover for his own record as his cover wasn’t as good. This is an extremely rare LP so I am not separating the cover from the record. I’ve had several knowledgeable collectors look at it and this is an accurate grade and very conservative on the cover. The record (and original inner sleeve) were stored behind a thick poly sleeve. I put the record itself in the anti-static diskeeper which will come with it. The LP plays through both sides loud and clear with only a minor scuff visible in pictures, if you can even notice it. NOTE: If you use Popsike etc for reference make sure you read the listings for condition, zoom in on the record for visual confirmation of condition and view the price history. The latest one that sold does not set the bar. There is a night and day difference between VG- and a M- collector piece.

All records are play tested on high end equipment to assure condition accuracy.

PLEASE NOTE: no matter how clean the vinyl is, these are 60+ year-old records. They may play with some soft surface noise. Buy with this in mind.

Grading Scale-

(M-) My highest grade, a gem quality like new disc with full blazing gloss. Record was only played a handful of times, will show marks made by 50’s paper sleeve removal and/or slight imperfection on label. Some labels were more prone to this than others. Record was properly cleaned and stored. I do not use “Mint” for 60+ year old records. M- grade is a top collector piece.

(VG+) Can also be “VG++” in certain instances. A very clean, above average record. Will show signs of use such as minor paper sleeve scuffs and/or light ring wear. Vinyl retains the majority, if not all of its original gloss and playback is excellent. A very collectable record.

(VG) Vinyl displays more scuffs but gloss is still present. Playback still has nice fidelity. Eyelash sleeve scuffing around most of the surface. There may be some very light surface noise and/or a tick or very slight warp (should be identified in description) but plays all the way through without skips. A collectable record.

(VG-) Vinyl has scuffs all around and possible scratches (will be noted in description) but most will still have gloss left, others may not so refer to pictures. Many of these often play quite well and make acceptable options, until a better one comes along. After test play, I will note any specific issue. The disc will playback with some surface noise and/or ticks/pops. Still enjoyable player w/o skips.

(G+) Close to the same as a VG-, the playback far surpasses its looks. Label may have serious wear or tear and/or vinyl has rough edges. Still plays through w/o skips.
