Note About Shipping To The U.S.
We are located in Canada, but have registered ourselves on eBay.com instead of eBay.ca because it gives us significantly better global exposure. The problem with this is that eBay wants us to charge shipping appropriate to US, where media mail and other options make for fairly reasonable delivery costs. We tried it for a while but ended up losing money on shipping or having to cancel the orders because we couldn't afford to ship for those rates. To manage this we have set the US shipping to run a calculator based on an American location (we chose Plattsburgh as fairly close) and charging according to UPS pricing. This avoids the cancellation issue, but can appear to the buyer to be a prohibitive shipping cost and misrepresents the shipping as being only expedited. If you give us your postal code we will see if we can offer a more reasonable option, but generally we can get a single LP by air to most places in the continental US for $11, a double $16, a few bucks less for ground. If you pay for the item and the shipping was less than you paid we will refund you the difference

Level 42's first three albums are stamped from the same mold and lie squarely in the realms of Brit funk this record is probably the best of them. The album has a good dynamic range it contains both Jazz Funk workouts and soulful ballads that allow you to catch your breath. It also has a few killer instrumentals on it which once again add a little extra variety. Mark Kings bass playing is very Stanley Clark like (not a bad role model to have!) evident on "Heathrow" especially, Guitar and Drums courtesy of the Gould Brothers help add to the Funk element in a subtle but all important way. Lyrics really are there because they need to be in order to sell records, I always felt that it was purely about the music with Level 42... but having said that they aren't the usual fare either "Starchild" demonstrates that. Synths provided by Wally Badarou and Mike Lindup are really cool very Grace Jones like in their sound, nice chord changes too. Level 42 have always received acclaim for their musicianship, but they are also really good arrangers which is why they were able to move away from Brit Funk and adapt to changing musical tastes better than their contemporaries, it's actually what I like best about the band. The only criticism that I have of this album, I've seen Level 42 live and they are so full of energy something that isn' quite captured by this record. All in all though, in my opinion... this is probably the best British, Brit Funk album of the early 80's.
