Background:   The compilation LP, Lethal Weapons, was released in May 1978 on the Suicide Records label.  The album was a tentative (but ambitious) foray by an established record label into the emerging Australian punk movement.  Suicide Records was formed as an off-shoot of Michael Gudinski’s Mushroom Records, under the management of Barrie Earl.

The bands featured on the album are:   

·         JAB – formed in Adelaide in early 1976, playing with a line-up of synthesizers, percussion, tapes and guitar; re-located to Melbourne in August 1977 where they incorporated a bass and second guitar into their sound.

·         The Teenage Radio Stars – Melbourne band; James Freud and Sean Kelly formed the glam-punk band Spred in 1977 (renamed The Teenage Radio Stars shortly afterwards); later Freud and Kelly attained pop-success after forming The Models.

·         The Survivors – Brisbane band formed in 1976; known for their energetic live performances of mainly ’60s covers.

·         The Boys Next Door – Melbourne band formed in 1975; contracted to the Suicide label and released These Boots are Made for Walking as a single in March 1878; later to become The Birthday Party.

·         X-Ray-Z – Melbourne band; later changed their name to the Popgun Men.

·         The Negatives – Melbourne band (formed in 1975 as The Reals); split up in early 1979; vocalist Garry Gray formed The Sacred Cowboys in 1982.

·         Wasted Daze – Sydney band formed in 1976; guitarist, Terry Wilson, formerly a member of Tully; split in 1977.

Condition:  The Lethal Weapons LP for sale here is the original 1978 release on Suicide Records in white vinyl.  The quality of the complete package – vinyl, labels and gatefold-sleeve – is very good.  

The only blemishes that can be discerned are:

• the outside of the gatefold sleeve has a few small spots and stains; one small crescent-shaped crease near the open edge; a couple of small creases on the edge (front cover); an imprint of the record (wear-ring) can be seen (more noticeable on the back cover). 
• the inside of the gatefold sleeve has a few small creases and some minimal wear, but is otherwise in excellent condition.
• the vinyl plays well and seems to be in good condition (difficult to see scuff or smudge marks on white vinyl); Side Two has two small dark spots that appears to be imperfections in the vinyl. 

The condition of the record can be summarised as:

·         Vinyl: EX

·         Labels: NM

·         Sleeve: EX

Grading categories:

·           MINT: Unplayed – record, sleeve, inner sleeve and any inserts are all as new, and label has no spindle hole wear.

·           NM: Known to have been played but vinyl is virtually pristine.  Label almost as new but indication of record being played may be visible at spindle hole.  Sleeves almost perfect.

·           EX: Vinyl is free of scratches but may have scuff marks.  Slight wear may be present at spindle hole. Sleeve has slight wear but nothing significant.

·           VG+: Vinyl will have just a few light scratches but will play without crackles or any serious sound problems; label may have some wear marks.  Sleeve will have easily visible wear.

·           VG: Expect some light scratches; loss of some sheen on the vinyl; easily visible wear at spindle hole; perhaps a name neatly on label or sleeve; a touch of surface noise; fairly significant sleeve wear.

This record is from my own collection.  It was purchased new and has been well cared for.  It has been held in storage for the last twenty years.
