Turkish Information Office. Yunus Emre. An Oratorio for Soli, Chorus and Orchestra by Ahmed Adnan Saygun. The Symphony of the Air and the Crane Chorus of the State University at Potsdam, New York. Conducted by Leopold Stokowski. Recorded live in the General Assembly Hall at The United Nations on November 25th, 1958. Reportedly only 50 copies were pressed by the Turkish Information Office in New York in early 1959. This recording had been referenced by Stokowski biographers but none of them had ever heard or seen it and it couldn't be confirmed that it actually existed. For a full accounting of the history and rarity of this recording I've provided a link to an article published by SUNY at Potsdam in 2009. This performance is very long for a 12" , 33 RPM record at just under 60 minutes.
A visual grade of the record is VG+ with some light surface marks. The most prominent mark is about 7/8" long on the beginning of side 2 (see last photo). A play grade is always in the VG+ to VG++ range with some minor surface noise. A sound clip of the last 5+ minutes of side 1 has been provided. This record has been fully play tested from beginning to end and does not have any significant issues. There is old tape residue on the side 2 label. Overall, the record is in good clean, glossy condition. No cover was ever made for this album but I believe the manilla sleeve and envelope that was with the record when I got it is original. It certainly exhibits the aging you would expect to see after nearly 60 years.
