On both sides the second '8' has been scratched out and replaced with a hand etched '8'
What's left to say about this seminal album - except that I bought this copy on its release and I've cherished it ever since.
I'm aware that the few initial copies had turquoise lettering on the cover and within a matter of weeks this was replaced with orange lettering. However I believe that in every other respect this example has all the characteristics of a first press of Led Zeppelin 1:
- Red/ Plum labels
- 'Superhype' publishing credit
- Thin grey stripe at the base of front cover
- 'UPTIGHT AN' OUTASIGHT' Atlantic Appreciation Society credit
- Printed and made by MacNeill Press Ltd
This is a genuine classic, a great rarity, and much sought after, especially a 1st press in such good condition. I'm confident you won't be disappointed - hence my starting price.
Using the Record Collector Grading System I would rate this item overall as Excellent+. I am not a dealer. This record comes from my own collection which I have been selling here on ebay for a few months. Cover
It has a front and back laminated non-flip-back sleeve with a plain inner sleeve. It is in Excellent+ condition with only the slightest lifting of laminate at the spine. As you can see from the picture it is clean and in good condition with no writing or pen or pencil marks. It has no other significant marks and no tears. The spine is intact and legible and the corners are perfect. The inner sleeve is near perfect too.
Record
The record itself I would grade Excellent+. It has no visible blemishes at all that I can see - apart from a minor inaudible and barely visible narrow smudge on side 1. The labels are clean and unmarked, with no writing, pen or pencil marks. There are a few minor barely visible spindle marks. The playing surfaces have no visible scratches and look as good as new. The reproduction quality is about as good as it got from a 1969 vinyl pressing - it's never going to be digital quality, but pretty good nevertheless. There are no audible scratches or crackles other than the usual surface noise that you'd get with any new vinyl record. The lead in and play out grooves are clean and glitch-free.
I believe this is as close as you'll get to a mint condition original copy of this very rare LP. Although this record was a big UK hit it will be very hard to find one so well-preserved.
