Description
This is from my own collection I am not a dealer, in the next few months I am selling of part of my collection, some rarities and collectable, no filler!
Led Zeppelins 1st album with silver stripe at bottom and "uptight and outasight" on the rear cover released March 1969 in uk. These are getting incredibly hard to find in good order as less of these were printed and pressed in 1969, after the success of the 2nd album in late 69 early 70 many 2nd 3rd versions followed before moving to orange and green label around 73 so a Red Plum with silver stripe from 69 is a keeper!
Recorded in just 36 hours at Olympic studios London in Oct 68 following a Scandinavia tour arranged by Peter Grant billed as "The New Yardbirds" Page announced the bands new name as "Led Zeppelin" midway on this tour and rolled out a Yardbirds tune he had re arranged "I'm confused" as 'Dazed and Confused" a which became a live staple for the next 4 years, a cover of "you shook me" by Willie Dixon which Jeff Beck also had rolled out on his. "Truth" album in 1968 the two versions are "so close" but Jeff never complained, along with new numbers like "communication breakdown" the reception was favourable and the new sound was born!
All this was recorded in Sep Oct 68 with a Fender telecaster "gifted" by Jeff Beck and a tiny supro amp, the sound was a lot larger however and very soon after on a 1969 US tour Page borrowed or was "given" the Les Paul by Joe Walsh which filled out the sound Page was looking for on live shows.
The record very good condition +
In very good condition with some surface lines, hairlines and sleeve removal scuffs , nothing to affect play on our Rega 3
A1 B4 matrixes with corrected 8 on 588171 are among the very first you find on Warners/Jewel credits
The Labels
label on side 1 has a historic sticker or tape removal mark which has lifted the label (see picture in the listing)
this could be fixed if it concerns but we prefer to leave for the next owner. no writing or names on label (see pictures)
label on side 2 in great order no writing, stickers or names superb colours.
The record sounds really awesome with great highs and lows.
Bright vivid colours on red plum labels the vinyl is "great fat" pre oil crisis late 60s vinyl. sits flat on the table with no issues.
The cover
Very good condition
The first of the orange covers with authentic silver stripe at bottom, later copies don't have this...also on the rear is the Atlantic Appreciation society credit "Uptight and Outasight" which denotes 1969 early Red Plum presses.
This cover is in really amazing condition after 47 years, only slight distortion ageing on the rear laminated cover (see picture) no tears, writing or stickers a real keeper...
