Formed out of the ashes of The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin was and will forever be the definitive heavy metal band. Their eponymous debut album showcased their crunching interpretations of the blues and invented the dominant format for heavy metal, as well as the genre's actual sound. Led Zeppelin had mystique, more than any other band and established the concept of album-oriented rock, refusing to release popular songs from their albums as singles. Throughout their career they weaved effortlessly through every musical genre each album more diverse than the last. With original UK vinyl pressings and withdrawn 7 inch singles always highly sought after they remain one of the most collectable bands around and there is no shortage of back catalogue rarities, amazing memorabilia and quality collectibles.
This European pressing of Led Zeppelin's live performance at Earls Court Arena Recorded May 24th, 1975, the repertoire includes five compositions
from early albums.
Most of the material is faithful to its original studio counterparts, and the sound quality is merely adequate. The music seems distant and cloudy, with distorted higher frequencies that induce speaker crackling. Despite the rhythm section's lack of clarity, the music's impact is still powerful. Many of the renditions greatly exceed the originals in length, despite their seemingly rushed presentation. An 11-minute version of "Stairway to Heaven" affords the band room to stretch out during an extended instrumental section near the close.
Standout numbers include the acoustic foot-stomper "Bron-y-aur Stomp," the heavy blues of "In My Time of Dying," and the driving keys, pounding drums, and crashing cymbals of "Trampled Underfoot."
