Description
An original 1970 Red & Plum UK 1st issue of Zep III [3]. Matrix A5/B7. This is effectively the 2nd label variation which would have been available in the shops around Xmas time - whilst the album was still charting. Note how the label still carried the 'Celebration' error where they'd omitted the word 'Day'. This is a lovely heavy-set copy...and not all red & plums were pressed at this weight. The vinyl comes in a true and correct 1st issue cover. They are 'Deluxe' and are printed by E J Day. The spinning wheel is intact and operational [still on the pin]. Sweet!
Vinyl (Vg+/Vg) In very nice condition and has not been abused. Under close inspection there are a few light marks per side, one or two are semi-feelable. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback with a couple of deviations. So, why do folks insist on Red & Plum ?... because these early copies seem to be able to replicate the true Zeppelin sound... That thunderous intro to 'Immigrant Song' etc etc. Well worth insisting on having one in your collection. This copy is not clean enough to hit the top grades - but if you were prepared to compromise a wee bit here and there - this copy offers great value and is more than capable of a great delivery. Ok, so it's not quiet in all areas [e.g. Tangerine] - but it really is a very decent overall rendition. Even the tricky tracks like 'Since I've Been' - plays pretty good...not perfect, but very very respectable. You can't fail to be impressed. There is a bit of crackle in the intro to 'Gallows Pole' - this is elevated. But as soon as the song picks up for proper - it plays fine. Expect a few clicks in [That's The Way]. Like I said, accept a couple of relatively minor issues and get a very nice collectable great player for a sensible price.
Cover (Vg+) In very nice condition - again not perfect but very respectable. Note that many original Zep III's would have got slightly impaired when 1st manufactured. A lot carry laminate creasing on the rear from day 1. But not here - the lamination is even and has protected the cover well. As with many copies there is light discolouration at the outer edges. The interior looks great with no issues. Edge wear is relatively light and the spine is 100% intact.
