Hello vinyl junkies, I’m knee deep (elbow deep?) in grease and rusty or missing parts while restoring a classic car (and have another waiting in the wings if I EVER finish the current one) so I'll be slowly selling off the bulk of my record collection to finance these projects… therefore I'll be continuing to list hundreds of LPs over the next few months, so please keep checking back

Anyway, let's continue with this self titled debut album by Las Mosquitas released by Lewdisc International Records in 1965. (SL 2001 Monophonic)  Red & white label with black print.

This is one of the coolest records you will ever have the chance to hear - Las Mosquitas were a female quartet from Argentina who were heavily influenced by the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, the Searchers and the rest of the British Invasion sound. If you enjoy the early-mid 60's Mersey Beat sound, you will love these songs.  If I didn't already have another copy of this LP I'd never give it up!

This is a very hard to find girl group album...it rarely turns up for sale, especially in this condition, so don't miss this copy!

There's something international abou the music of today. You can hear the blues inflection in that Liverpool sound. The Motown beat is distinctive and distinguished. There are young groups and new sounds in Germany and Australia and Japan. It's happening all over the world these days.

The music of today is happening in Argentina, too. There is a totally new sound. This time it combines a Latin beat with rock. This is the sound and style of Las Mosquitas, four young and attractive beatle-haired girls who sing and shout and shake their way to feverent performances. They've affected audiences in Spain and Latin-American and other Eurpoean arenas.

This is the first album of a collection of Las Mosquitas songs. Included is "Si Lloras Si Reis", which won the first prize in 1965 at the San Remo Music Festival.

These four girls do it all by themselves. They have the traditional musical combination, 2 guitars, a bass guitar and drums. There is nothing timid or dainty about their approach. These talented females come upon each song with a fresh and dramatic accompaniment. They engender a weird and wonderful feeling.

Few people - once they hear Las Mosquitas - fail to be moved by the vitality and warmth of their performances. They've given birth to an intense music. It's most unusual.

Something new is coming out of South America these days. It's not traditional Latin tempo. This time it's the sound of Las Mosquitas - four beautiful girls who sing and play a Latin-Rock rhythm that will keep the youth of the world bouncing.

Here is a rough translation from a portion of the Spanish liner notes:

The group "The Mosquitos" is comprised of  Pupe, Nita, Nene and Dina, their appropriation of traditional Latin rhythms with beat backed with solid playing skills works like a treat. Pupe, 20, comes from the distinguished Saltera family, loves to cook and is characterised by a melancholy, almost sad persona. She studied classical music from an early age until she dropped Liszt's sonatas for the modern rhythms. Nita, 21, hails from Buenos Aires. Going along with her parents wishes she studied classical music and ballet until she discovered the Twist. However it did not stop her pursuing some late night hobbies - philosophy and painting. Nene, 20, is the shy member of the group. She abandoned her plans to study medicine when at the age of 14 she decided she wanting to don a habit and become a Nun - almost.  Young bachelors also take note that Nene's hobby...is cleaning.  Final member Dina, 18, is the most joyous and playful of the group - preferring also to be pampered and spoiled by her those around her. Hailing from a humble family of La Rioja - she left school and headed to the capital to carve out a career in the music industry. All girls sing while Nene and Pupe strum guitar, while Nita plays the bass and Dina plays the drums.

I grade on a stricter scale than Goldmine! (or at least the watered down version that seems to exist here on eBay). I'll take the time to describe any flaws rather that give a letter grade that means something different to seemingly every record seller and buyer... I've received too many LPs graded by sellers VG++ or NM that were pretty beat up, and I'm willing to bet it's happened to your too.

Sorry if the cover looks washed out in the photo below…this is caused by a reflection from the camera flash… the colors are brighter and bolder in person.

Due to overwhelming requests, I generally ship domestic packages by Media Mail. However, please keep in mind that while media mail is the cheapest shipping method it is also the slowest. Media mail can take up to one month or MORE to arrive. Media Mail shipping within the United States is $3.50 including mandatory Delivery Conformation.

I do combine shipping for multiple purchases. The $3.50 covers between one and two albums. Additional albums (three and up) are an additional 25 cents each. (Please wait for an invoice from me, as the Paypal system does not calculate the combines shipping)

If you need your purchase quicker than Media Mail will provide, please e-mail me and I'll let you know the Priority Mail shipping cost. Depending on your location Priority rates range between $4.95 to $8.75 for one LP.

I do not charge any "shipping" or "handling" fees... you pay what the post office charges me.  I usually ship within 48 hours of receiving Payment.

Overseas shipping is by Air Mail Only (surface mail is not available!) Shipping for one LP to Canada is $7.00, Mexico is $11.00. Anywhere else in the world is $14.00. Overseas shipping is by regular air mail and can take anywhere from one and four weeks to arrive.  I do combine shipping for overseas purchases also - I will send an invoice with the shipping amount if purchasing more than one LP.

I am sorry but I do not accept bids from (or ship records to) bidders from Italy or the "Russian Federation."

All records are mailed in cardboard record mailers with cardboard inserts to prevent damage. LP will be removed from cover for shipping to prevent seam splits while in transit.
