LOVE "Da Capo" 1967 UK 1st MONO (11-66) STUNNING SOUND

MATT US SLEEVE, FIRST TEXTURED ORANGE/BLACK LABELS

LOVE
Da Capo

ORIGINAL UK ELEKTRA (EKL 4005) FIRST *MONO* PRESSING (February 1967) OF LOVE'S SECOND ALBUM "Da Capo"

*EVERY SO OFTEN A RECORD COMES ALONG WHICH HAS SUCH AMAZING SOUND AND DEFINITION IT COMPLETELY BLOWS YOU AWAY AND THIS ORIGINAL UK MONO PRESSING OF "Da Capo" IS ONE OF THOSE RECORDS
AND EVEN THOUGH THIS COPY HAS CLEARLY BEEN WELL LOVED, THE FRESH, ELECTRIFYING MUSIC SHINES THROUGHOUT BRIGHT, LOUD AND CLEAR AND IT PLAYS WITH LITTLE TO FAULT (please see detailed audio description below)

PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL WITH THE FIRST MATT AND TEXTURED RED/BLACK ELEKTRA LABELS
MATRIX: EKL4005 A-1A (34-4, 11-66) / EKL 4005 B-1B (34-4, 11-66) (the album was recorded Sept-Oct 1966 so the "11-66" is presumably the final mix/master - this date is only present on the very first copies pressed)
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL MATT US PRINTED SINGLE SLEEVE WITH THE TINY "PRINTED IN U.S.A." LOGO AND THE UK, AS WELL AS THE US, ELEKTRA ADDRESSES

Love broadened their scope into psychedelia on their second album, Arthur Lee's achingly melodic songwriting gifts reaching full flower.
The six songs that comprised the first side of this album when it was first issued are a truly classic body of work, highlighted by the atomic blast of pre-punk rock "Seven & Seven Is" (their only hit single), the manic jazz tempos of "Stephanie Knows Who," and the enchanting "She Comes in Colors," perhaps Lee's best composition (and reportedly the inspiration for the Rolling Stones' "She's a Rainbow").
It's only half the album however, and the second side is given over to the extended blues/rock work-out "Revelation" (original entitled "John Lee Hooker") which is a stunning tour de force of a band at the peak of it's powers

Side 1:
"Stephanie Knows Who" – 2:33
"Orange Skies" – 2:49
"¡Que Vida!" – 3:37
"7 and 7 Is" – 2:15
"The Castle" – 3:00
"She Comes in Colors" – 2:43
Side 2:
"Revelation" – 18:57

LABELS: The labels are clean and unmarked with moderate spindle wear on Side Two but considerably less on Side One - EXCELLENT
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces are clean and shiny with fine light hairlines but no feel-able scratches and a few small scuff marks towards the end of Side Two. None of these markings have any major audio significance - VERY GOOD+
VINYL Audio: Absolutely electrifying sound to this first pressing. The MONO cut is crystal clear and loud with incredible detail and definition and on my one careful play-check at loud volume I noted just three pops on the run-in to Side One, and on the chorus of She Comes In Colors: "Woh woh woh woh my love she comes in colors / You can tell her from the clothes she wears" - there is some peak level distortion to Lee's vocals on the 'Woh woh woh woh' part. Otherwise, the record plays beautifully and I found neither of these imperfections spoilt my listening pleasure at all. Apart from these, the audio quality is superb and the side long 'Revelation' is simply stunning (and cut even louder than Side One!). Critically and conservatively graded VERY GOOD+ (side one) / EXCELLENT+ (side two) - it sounds amazing
SLEEVE: The 1st issue US printed sleeve (all of the very first UK copies were issued in the readily available US covers as UK sleeves were yet to be printed) is good and solid with no rips, splits or tears but the heavy card matt surfaces display some rubbing, especially to the black colour on the front. It is however, clean with no marks or unwanted writing - VERY GOOD+
