Title: Louis Armstrong All Stars - Live
Label - Private Aluminum Base Acetate
Tunes : Muskrat Ramble / Basin St. Blues
Notes: This is a 12 inch private acetate recorded at 78 rpm. The only data on the labels are the tune titles which are written in pencil. I do not know the origin of this recording but clearly this is a Live recording by the Louis Armstrong All Stars. The personnel is easily identifiable as Louis, Jack Teagarden, Barney Bigard, Earl Hines, Arvell Shaw and Big Sid Catlett. That personnel group likely dates this item in 1948-1949. Also, the brief announcements sound very much like Dave Garroway to me.
This may be a Boris Rose acetate because it seems to be professionally recorded in Excellent fidelity and I have seen this type of label used on some of his products but usually with his stamp. There is some underlying surface noise that is inherent in these types of discs but again the fidelity is Excellent and well above the surface noise level.
Muskrat Ramble is 5 minutes and 5 seconds in length and everyone except Big Sid gets a 2 chorus solo. Basin St. Blues lasts for 3 minutes and 32 seconds and has both a Teagarden and Louis solo as well as a Teagarden vocal.
Disc Condition: The disc is in VG++ condition and is an excellent player. The acetate is glossy and fully intact except for a small chip on the outer edge (not into grooves) of each side. See photos
