When first released in 1979, ‘Forces Of Victory’ by the inimitable Linton Kwesi Johnson was hailed as a landmark in dub poetry and reggae. Produced by Johnson himself alongside the esteemed Dennis Bovell, it spoke of political urgency and injustice yet also radiated a sense of peace and righteousness. It’s now reissued via UMC as part of 2021’s Black History Month, with a welter of dub versions and lengthier mixes on a bonus disc.
