Description

1st album (non 78 RPM) for Lightnin’ Hopkins. Strums the Blues 1958 Original 1st pressing Score SLP 4022. Strums The Blues is the first album release of 78 RPM records by Lightnin' Hopkins on the Aladdin label. The Bad - presumed 1st owner made ‘copious’ notes on back cover in blue & red ink. Taped over mistakes he made, etc.. whoever Jay Vaughn was he apparently knew a lot about Lightnin’ Hopkins & specifically the tracks / sessions on this LP.  Looks like he purchased in 1960 and most likely added all cover comments, notes, tape overs at or around that time. It adds a certain patina. Regardless with writing and tape job. Couple ink marks on front. 1 on sleeve lower left corner; smaller one above the guitar left side. Good is accurate description.  LP as pictured is glossy and in stunning shape for 69 years of age.  Of course Jay couldn’t leave labels alone ..had to scotch tape customized Side A & Side B designations on each side as Side 1 & Side 2 apparently wasn’t copacetic / acceptable.  At any rate the records plays Near Mint…bearing in mind this is compilation of previous 78 RPM recordings from the late 1940’s. There is a background hiss to entire record. Vocals & guitar are loud & clear.  If not for the label defacing record would be NM- easy. I’m calling VG mainly because of labels. Couple of barely visible sleeve marks. Very rare record in any condition.  Priority mail shipping included in purchase price. I purchased this at blues festival in the mid 1990’s. Wasn’t cheap as I recall, but wasn’t exorbitant like $4 or $5 hundred for the 1 or 2 other copies in better visual condition that I saw at record shows / stores. Has always been a Holy Grail Record.Condition hasn’t changed / deteriorated since then. Played only few times since 2000’s when I purchased higher end turntable, music hall MMF 5, I felt this record was worthy of being played on. Otherwise LP has been stored out of sleeve in mofi inner / with cover and original paper sleeve ( not pictured but included) inside 5 mil ultra thick / clear audiophile outer sleeve. If you’re looking for a perfect cover & lp this isn’t the copy for you. You will also probably pay triple or more & have record, if NM, sounds sonically equal to one being offered in this listing. Will be packaged securely, shipped quickly & arrive in condition as advertised.  See 100% feedback since 2003 and specifically from recent sales that state as much. All items are from my personal collection.  I’ve accumulated/ amassed way too much over the past 30 plus years…paring down to the essentials / desert island records that I regularly listen to.
Thank you for checking out this listing.  Check back as there will be more  to come over the next weeks & months. Message me with any questions
