Hello, and welcome to auction items from Chicago’s Wax Trax! Records.
We have been starting to pick through the Wax Trax! archives and found a few rare items that we would like to make available to collectors for the first time.
For those wondering about the influential store & label, Wax Trax! first opened it’s Chicago location in 1978 by founders Jim Nash & Dannie Flesher. The store focused primarily on experimental, unusual or hard to find collectables and quickly became the center of underground punk, new wave and experimental music & culture throughout the Midwest.
Using the momentum of the the store’s success, Nash & Flesher branched out into the seminal record label in 1980. Early pivotal artists such as Front 242, Ministry, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Front Line Assembly, COIL, Laibach, and so many other electronic pioneers had their beginnings with Jim & Dannie and Wax Trax! Records. The label's contribution to what has now become known as "Industrial Music" cannot be overstated.
What we have here is a very rare piece from 1991. This original LEAD INTO GOLD test pressing of “Low And Slow”, contains unreleased songs from Ministry visionary, Paul Barker.
Barker, along side contributions from Al Jourgensen and Bill Rieflin, created the core sound of all the Ministry side projects on Wax Trax!. LEAD INTO GOLD was Paul’s personal artistic vision and was a valuable creative presence within the Wax Trax! catalog.
There were only a handful of these pressed and if you’re a collector, I think you know how difficult it is to find this original album in any condition. Truly a wonderful and scarce piece of Wax Trax! and Paul Barker history.
All proceeds from these upcoming WT auctions will be used to help fund the forthcoming Wax Trax! documentary. This film traces the arc of Wax Trax! records throughout the 80‘s & 90‘s as well as the influence of Jim, Dannie as well as all the ground breaking artists that called Wax Trax! home.
