Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
UK Picture Disk vinyl LP (EMCP 3223)
The vinyl disk is in excellent condition and is in the original see-through plastic inner sleeve. The outer sleeve is also in excellent condition but is a later sleeve without the Photo Disk sticker.
The record is the rarer 1st issue picture disk (it doesn't have "manufactured in the UK by EMI records Ltd" as part of the copyright notice on the outer edge of the disk that the second issue photo disks have).
According to Discogs.com, this version should have the code 5389-4 and the message "REmEmBER YouRSELF" on the runout of the A side, and the code 5390-4 on the B side runout. This disk, however, has 5389-4 and "REmEmBER YouRSELF" on the A side runout but 5390-2 on the runout of the B side. According to Discogs this combination of codes is unknown in production disks - whether Photo Disks or standard vinyl.
The record originally belonged to someone who was involved with record production at EMI and it may, therefore, be a test pressing of a variant that never made it into production. This would explain why it has an original inner sleeve but not a matching outer sleeve. Because of the cost of the artwork, outer sleeves were expensive at the time and so not wasted on test pressings.
This copy may therefore be unique.
