While he’s almost always kept one foot in the rock world, nonetheless
Great Britain’s most intrepid and unpredictable jazz pianist.
Keith Tippett played the piano on the records of King Crimson, Peter Sinfield, Elton Dean,
and various offshoots from the Crimson/Soft Machine orbit.
His own recordings during this period never found more than a tiny audience,
but his playing on those others artists' records, especially the King Crimson albums,
made him a familiar name to tens of thousands of listeners

This scaled-down session would become the starting point for the pianist's free improvisation career.
His piano playing was still under a strong jazz influence and he had not started to use the instrument's bowels yet.
Bassist Roy Babbington and vocalist Julie Tippetts accompany him almost throughout.
Percussionists Frank Perry and Keith Bailey occasionally join in, providing mostly chimes and cymbals.
The session, supervised by Robert Fripp, opens with "Song," a delicate jazzy number.
