This listing is for a very rare Quadraphonic pressing of the classic Imagine album. It is recorded using 4 channels as opposed to the usual 2 channels and so therefore if played through suitable hardware and 4 speakers offers a unique sound experience. Think of it in the same way as a surround sound system. Most films are produced using 5 channels and so are playable through a Dolby 5.1 surround sound with 5 speakers. I'm no expert but it's just how I understand it haha.
The record still plays through a standard 2 channel set up and has a huge sound stage, much louder than the original Apple pressing I have. There is lots of deep bass and if you have high quality hardware I am sure you can achieve a special experience of this amazing album.
Audio geekery aside this is also a very rare and collectable record and this copy has been well looked after and would make a great investment.
All of my records are play tested on a Project Debut Carbon with 2M Red stylus which is quite revealing so any sound defects may be more exaggerated than on other more mainstream players. Or conversely if you are a full on audiophile I will let you judge how your set up compares and how you envisage the sound will compare.
I don't currently have access to a cleaning machine so please forgive any dust or finger marks which are on any of my records - hopefully will be investing in one at some point.
Record Appearance - VG+ A strong VG+ with just a few light whisper marks from sleeve wear, no deep or large scratches. The record has a nice glossy finish on both side and labels are in great condition with just light spindle marks under a bright light.
Record Audio - VG/VG+ There is some surface noise, which there seems to be on nearly every copy of Imagine I have listened to. It is a little pronounced on some quieter moments on the album but generally the deep rich sound of the recording overpowers this and for the most part a very enjoyable listen. A machine clean may eradicate this if there is dust in the grooves but I don't have access to one unfortunately. As mentioned above the bass is something to behold and with a good setup could really sound amazing.
Record Sleeve - VG+/NM Very close to Near Mint a really well loved record this. Barely any sleeve wear with the edges and spine in almost perfect condition and fully legible titles. The laminate protection has a creased a little with age in places and there is some light ring wear under a bright light. The record is stored in the original unique Quadraphonic inner sleeve which is a nice touch and in great condition. There is no lyric inner or poster, but I don't think these pressings had them originally.
