John Coltrane 1st Press US LP Impressions VG+ '63 Impulse AS-42 Van Gelder Jazz
Original 1st Press US LP released in 1963 on Impulse Records. Cat: AS-42. Comes in heavyweight gloss gatefold cover. Matrix numbers are : AS - 42 · A LW STEREO VAN GELDER/ AS - 42· B LW STEREO VAN GELDER. Also has original ABC-Paramount Records printed inner sleeve.
Uncovered in the out back of N.S.W. this record is part of a recent collection stored and unplayed for the last 20 years. Collected during the 90's and mostly sourced from overseas kept in a cool dry cellar there are some tasty gems on offer and we look forward on listing them over the next few months.
Impressions is a hodgepodge of memorable John Coltrane performances from the 1961-1963 period. "India" and "Impressions" are taken from Trane's famous November 1961 engagement at the Village Vanguard; bass clarinetist Eric Dolphy is heard on the former while the latter features a marathon solo from Coltrane on tenor. Also included on this set are 1962's "Up 'Gainst the Wall" and the classic of the album, 1963's "After the Rain."

There are some light spindle marks on labels. Records have scuff marks and a few very light scratches that cause some light crackles and is in VG+ condition. Heavy weight gloss gatefold sleeve has light ringwear and marks and is in Excellent condition.
Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
