Audiophile direct metal mastered lp with experimental percussion pieces (on a Swedish label but pressed in Germany by Teldec). The Cage score provides instructions to strategically mute the piano strings with erasers, screws, and bolts, transforming the instrument into a unique microtonal percussion device producing unusual textures and resonances. The Harrison piece uses non-western scales and intricate polyrhythms. Performed by the Kroumata Percussion Ensemble and Manuela Wiesler, flute.

artist info from album notes etc.:
Cage, arguably the most influential American composer of the 20th century, was known for his innovative use of chance methods, silence, found sounds, and extended playing and electroacoustic treatment techniques on traditional instruments; he studied under Henry Cowell and Arnold Schoenberg, led the New York School of early postwar experimental composers (Earle Brown, Christian Wolff, Morton Feldman), was a contemporary of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Iannis Xenakis, colaborated with Conlon Nancarrow, David Tudor, and Merce Cunnigham, and was associated with the Fluxus 'post-dada' art movement (Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, George Maciunas, Joseph Beuys, La Monte Young, Milan Knizak, etc.). Jolivet studied with Paul Le Flem, was influenced by Edgard Varese, and worked with Olivier Messiaen, Daniel Lesur, and Yves Baudrier. Harrison studied with Henry Cowell, Arnold Schoenberg, and Virgil Thomson and worked with John Cage, Charles Ives, and Harry Partch; he taught at the legendary Black Mountain College with David Tudor and Stefan Wolpe. Sandstrom studied with Ingvar Lidholm, Gyorgy Ligeti, and Per Norgard.
