Description
An original 1st press of 'Stand Up' on the UK Island Bull's-eye label. Matrix A/B. Please note there were a number of early Island label variations soon after release, but rest assured that this is THE very earliest variation possible. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Ernest J Day cover with that famous 'pop-up' of the band in the interior.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In excellent condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks each side - nothing heavy or troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. This copy really does give a nice clean rendition and quite frankly is a treat to behold. Interference is minor and infrequent. We detected the odd crackle in a couple of isolated moments and then in 'We Used To Know' a few crackles in the second half of the song. This is the only audible interference and for the remainder of the record expect a thoroughly entertaining and impressive rendition.
Cover (Vg+) The 'Stand Up' cover is absolutely notorious for surfacing with a lot of wear and tear. But this example has been pretty carefully looked after and is certainly one of the nicer copies I've seen for a while. Check out the front - barely a crease or any ageing at all. The rear is exhibiting a bit of ageing in places, but is a good bit better than many examples. The interior is pretty much immaculate and the 'pop-up' works and looks just like it did when it was printed back in '68. Edge wear is pretty light except for a small section at the front bottom-edge [1 inch] where it is wearing through. Spines are usually worn to buggery on this title, but again this example is very well preserved. There's a bit of ageing, but all the text is pretty much totally legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity and remains an impressive specimen.
