Description

Up for auction I have a UK original TRANSLUCENT 1st week pressing of Joy Division's legendary debut album Unknown Pleasures released on Manchesters Factory Records.Catalogue number is FACT 10.  The heavily textured sleeve is in typically VG/VG+ shape,as you know it's flimsy nature is open to very bad ringwear but this one has been fairly looked after over the years with less than average wear, just tired corners, medium to fair ringwear and some creases, typical of a record not stored in a strong plastic outer sleeve. The rounded inner sleeve shows very little signs of wear indeed but does has have a couple of tiny brown age spots so graded EX.One of the clenest rounded inners of this record I've ever had.

THE ALL IMPORTANT VINYL IS IN WONDERFUL NEAR MINT CONDITION.On playback the quieter passages are just beautiful, silent and eery, just how it's meant to be. I really cannot stress the high end quality of the vinyl in more glowing terms. It is possibly your final upgrade of a UK Unknown Pleasures(the pressing everyone wants/needs to own). The vinyl is absolutely flat as a pancake,no warping at all,as good as the day it was pressed in 1979.Copies with the textured outer and rounded inner sleeve coupled with the TRANSLUCENT vinyl are becoming increasingly scarce.

Remember note that the vinyl DOES show up reddish/purple when held up to the light. The camera pics show a more purple colour but the true colour is a much more crimson effect.Looks amazing! These copies are becoming near impossible to locate. It does have the very early "This Is The Way" and "Step" etchings (taken from the track Atrocity Exhibition,a song that would appear on Joy Divisions Closer lp) on the run out indicating a very early 1979 Factory Records press.Any questions are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

I have been selling Joy Division items on ebay for a number of years now and unlike many,I do know the difference in pressings. It is confusing, but rest assured when I sell a 1st press it indeed is a 100% original  UK 1st press. As I expect this stunning copy to reach a high price I will only post via SPECIAL DELIVERY,fully insured to the maximum so please take this into account when my final postage rates come through, thanks. In other words it will be higher than the £4.50 Ebay allow me for an item of this rarity I'm afraid.

3 years ago I was recently invited to donate rare Joy Division artefacts to the Macclesfield Museum(please see below)

JOY DIVISION ARTEFACTS SOUGHT BY MACCLESFIELD MUSEUM

Macclesfield Silk Museum is currently searching for interesting Joy Division artefacts for a proposed exhibition due to take place in May 2010. The exhibition is being curated by Jon Savage, and Peter Saville is the creative director.

The museum would like to hear from anyone who may be interested in loaning unseen photos, live recordings or footage, flyers, posters, badges or any other rare memorabilia.

If you think you may be able to contribute, please email us at:

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM

MINT :The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed be Mint.

EXCELLENT :The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD :The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

I may use a + or a - to emphasise a grading which may be inbetween a grade. I will never use a mint grading for a 2nd hand/used record for instance. Mint- will be the very highest grade.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO NOT,AND WILL NOT,RETRACT A BID FOR ANYONE REGARDLESS OF THE EXCUSE.THIS IS SOMETHING YOU WILL HAVE TO DO YOURSELF USING THE BID RETRACTION FORM AND EARN A BID RETRACTION STRIKE AGAINST YOURSELF.Paypal ONLY accepted for buyers outside the United Kingdom(UK).No exceptions on this, sorry.
