Als Leader dürfte der Trompeter Johnny Coles nur wenigen Jazzfans bekannt sein, als Sessionmusiker wohl eher mehr, denn er spielte bei berühmten Leuten wie Miles Davis, Gil Evans, Gene Ammons, Herbie Hancock oder Charlie Mingus! Der Titel dieser LP ist dabei durchaus Programm, denn dieses Ensemble spielte einen völlig unangestrengten Modern Jazz, der die vorhandenen Finessen geschickt in einen flüssigen, kompakten Sound einband. Die wunderschöne Blues- und Balladennummern sind vor allem für Musikfreunde empfehlenswert, die trotz exzellenter Instrumentenabbildung den warmen Klang einer 60er-Jahre-Aufnahme schätzen. ........................................................................................
