HEY, PORTER!
In November of 1955, Johnny Cash's first record "Cry, Cry, Cry" and “Hey Porter!” shot up the country charts landing at #14. This new star with the growling baritone voice was going to quickly find that he could sell records, lots of records.
At the time, most record buyers were switching from 78rpms to the newer, lighter, more durable 45rpms, and record companies pressed fewer and fewer of those fragile platter. Add to that the easily broken records couldn’t be easily replaced and soon you’ll find that not many of these survived on the original 78rpm format.
