Description
- John Cougar (Mellencamp) released his fifth studio album "American Fool" in April 1982 on the U.K.'s Riva Records label which was distributed in the U.S. by PolyGram Records. Despite great hesitancy by the label, which was hoping for a more Neil Diamond-like sound, it became his commercial breakthrough and spent nine weeks at No. 1 on the charts thanks to hit singles "Jack & Diane" and "Hurts So Good." It finally gave Mellencamp enough clout that in 1983 he was able to force the record company to allow the use of his real name from that point forward and to phase out the name "Cougar" which he always hated.
- This is an extremely rare Brand New copy of (RVL7501) from the First Pressing in 1982 and is still Sealed in its Original Factory Shrink Wrap. Please see the pictures of this Mint Condition and unopened copy, but note the very slight edge wear and that the photos of the disc labels and inner sleeve are from another copy. It was mastered by Chet Bennett at CBS in NYC and was pressed for CRC at the Columbia Records plant in Carrollton, Georgia.
- In addition to its original sealed packaging, this album will come with a sturdy 3 mil. polyethylene Archival Quality Outer Sleeve. This vintage 12" vinyl album has been sitting upright and unopened on a shelf in climate controlled storage for the past 39 years.
