This is an auction for a very rare LP, Johanna Martzy, Brahms Violin Concerto, Kletzki, Philharmonia Orchestra.

This was released by Columbia records and has catalogue number 33CX1165. This is the very rare first press with a dark blue label and gold lettering and is Mono.

This label is some times referred to as B/Gold.

The following is all pictured on supersize for clarification on condition.

Condition: The sleeve comes in superb condition.  There is a touch of lamination peeling at the mouth and one place on the spine (thumb size and where the word 'concerto' is). There is also a sticker on the rear top corner, there is no damage of any kind underneath the sticker, I have not tried to remove it. The flipback edge underneath can be clearly seen through the sticker and as stated there is no damage. This will peel off cleanly possibly leaving only some glue residue, which can be removed. Lastly, I would say there are some very light and discreet discolour marks to the top and bottom edge of the rear flipback edges. Again these will probably clean. Please check the pictures on supersize, you will be hard pressed to find this sleeve in any better condition. This sleeve is graded at Near Mint.

This comes with its original 'Made In England' paper inner sleeve, which other than some creasing is fine.

Both labels are almost perfect and brand new, Under very close examination, being ultra fussy I would say that on side 2 the centre hole shows a tiny amount of wear at 5 o'clock to the bottom part of the hole.  Both labels show a reddish reflection at 4 o'clock from my ceiling lights and are infact not marks on the labels. When I picked this record up I fully expected, once seeing the sleeve, that the vinyl would infact be mint. Under normal light it looks fine and retains its near new shine. Under a very bright light some marks can be seen. Now these marks are not dust/dirt, but are infact what I can only describe as the impression of perhaps the inner sleeve. It looks as though when it was stored there must of been some pressure on the inner sleeve, which over a period of 50 years has left 2 triangular faint impressions on the vinyl on side 2, plus other marks (dotts and lines) of the same kind on both sides. This fits in with the corners of the inner sleeve being folded over, because there is no impression of the record showing through on the outer sleeve. I can only imagine these were stored separately.

So, of course, I have played this through both sides. Both sides start with some feckling, background noise, this clears to just be heard in places and then on to clear completely (the exception being the odd very quiet tiny crackle or pop). This feckling can be traced to the marks on the vinyl and is certainly not being caused by scratches or wear. I have managed to photograph these marks on one of the pictures below to give you some idea of what caused them. Of course the biggest question is will they clean?  I played this, then cleaned it with standard record cleaner fluid, both sides played better, but still by no means clear. The music itself plays perfectly, strong, no distortion, or dragging and can be heard clearly for the entirety of the record. This I would expect to play almost perfectly if these marks can be removed with a stronger cleaner.

So as it stands right now this is graded somewhere between VG and Near Mint. If the marks can be shifted from the grooves then I would expect this to be comfortably Near Mint.
