Description

Here is a superb copy of  one of the most desired of all violin records, an original issue of Johanna Martzy's first microgroove release for DGG from 1952, 16017 LP.  Piano accompaniment provided by Jean Antonietti, as ever.  The recital, featuring Ravel's Berçeuse sur le Nom de Fauré and Pièce en Forme de Habanera, Falla's Danse Espagnole, Szymanowski's Notturno and Tarantella, and Milhaud's Ipanema was recorded in 1951 and '52 and is an evident statement of intent by Martzy.  Extremely rare to find in its first issue stitched yellow gatefold jacket with blue tape spine reinforcement and here in wonderful NM condition.  There is the lightest evidence of ring-wear to the unlaminated jacket and a small amount of writing, namely a light ballpoint squiggle at ten o'clock on the front and some original prices on the reverse top left corner.  The jacket is otherwise sound, the spine is unworn and the tips sharp.  NO damage.  There is an original shop sticker on the label on Side One. The playing surfaces are solid NM.  An amazing copy of this fabulous record.  Forget all other issues, this is THE pressing, the sound is absolutely fantastic.  Truly an essential recording in any collection of violin interpretation.  Do not miss this, it is unlikely you will ever see another as good.
