Description
This is an auction for a rare LP, Johann Strauss, Klemperer, Kurt Weill, Philharmonia Orchestra.
This was released by Columbia records and has catalogue number SAX2460. This is the 1st pressing with a turquoise and silver label and is stereophonic. Please check the pictures for clarification.
Matrix: YAX 859 4 YAX 860 5
Condition: The sleeve has some wavering seen along the mouth edge and a light stain on the top corner seen running down the mouth edge. The bottom rear flipback edge has two small tears where peeled away, pictured on supersize, still intact and stuck back would be discreet. Light buffing can also be seen to the corners. Spine & Edges Ex, no overall discolouring, please check the pictures a nice crisp sleeve and graded at VG+.
This comes with its original 'patents appied for' inner sleeve which has a little creasing, no discolouring or edge splits.
Both labels look clean and near new, Under closer examination I can't see any spindle trails but the centre hole on side one does show a mere touch of wear, fine labels.
The vinyl retains its new shine and looks immaculate in normal light, Under a strong light side one still looks immaculate, side two has some ghost scuff marks and feather scratches. These look like the kind of marks possibly caused if placing or removing the vinyl from the sleeve with out an inner sleeve. I have test played this through both sides and was surprised to find that side two has a few audible surface noises. Perhaps a quarter of the way through this side a tick can be heard for four or five rotations, as we approach the very end of act one, as the music diminishes to nothing some feckling can be heard, lastly as the music builds a few audible loud ticks are heard. This soon completely clears and goes back to playing superbly well. The ghost marks are completely non-audible. The music itself plays superbly well, with no distortion, fading or dragging. Strong, loud audio which is for the most part completely clear. The occasional quiet crackle aside, side one plays at a comfortable near mint and certainly does not appear to suffer any lessening in sound quality due to wear. Side two has the same strong audio, with most of this side playing completely clear, but does have the mentioned surface noises and the occasional quiet crackle. The music itself does not appear to suffer from any distortion, fading or dragging but does have a little lessening in sound quality in places, probably because this side, despite the absence of spindle trails, has been played a few times, which explains the touch of spindle wear seen on the reverse label. So a grading of VG+ for this fine looking record, obviously side one is a comfortable near mint, have to down-grade for the audible surface noises on side two.
