Cover: vg (wrinkles, light wear, small writing, and some small rust stains by the staples) description:
Ultra rare 2nd album by Jean-Jacques Perrey (and just as hard to find as his Prelude au Sommeil), an awesome French children's science fiction story with stunning electronic sound effects and background soundscapes made by Perrey entirely on his Ondioline proto-synthesizer (credited as "Effets sonores: Jean-Jacques Perrey et son ondioline kaleidoscopique"), plus plenty of electronically processed crazy French robot voices! The Ondioline was a vacuum tube-powered, touch-sensitive early electronic keyboard instrument invented in 1941 by Georges Jenny; Perrey was an Ondioline salesman and it was his instrument of choice before the Moog existed (it achieved some popularity in the heyday of space-age pop, used by Esquivel, Attilio Mineo, Kai Winding, Al Kooper, and even Hollywood composer Alex North in his Spartacus score). Includes the full storybook inside the gatefold, written by Jean-Jacques Olivier and with gorgeous uncredited space-age sci-fi illustrations. A true artifact, compares to the best of over the top early electronic children's records like Bruce Haack, Ilhan Mimaroglu, and Philippe Arthuys!
artist info from album notes:
Perrey worked with Gershon Kingsley and Robert Moog, was friends with Andre Popp, learned musique concrete tape manipulation techniques from Pierre Schaeffer, and has been famously sampled by Pharcyde, DJ Premier/Gang Starr, and many other producers. This should be enjoyed by fans of Pierre Henry, Tom Dissevelt, Dick Raaijmakers, Negativland, Raymond Scott, Theremin, ARP, Buchla, Oskar Sala/Trautonium, Mort Garson, Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause, Stereolab, Aphex Twin, Roger Roger/Cecil Leuter, Ondes Martenot, John Eaton/Syn-Ket, Hugh Le Caine, etc. Check out my other items for more avant garde/experimental, early electronic/electroacoustic, minimalism, sound effects/field recordings, 20th century classical, library music, and artist records. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.
