Stand Up is the second album by Jethro Tull. Prior to this album, the band's original guitarist Mick Abrahams had left the band due to musical differences with Ian Anderson. Abrahams wanted to stay with the blues-rock sound of This Was, while Anderson wished to branch out into other musical forms!!!!.

VERY RARE ORIGINAL UK 1st PRESSING

1st island plain pink / ‘eye’ label

available on this original label for less than one month - island were about to introduce their short-lived ‘black block’ pink design

the matt textured labels are absolutely perfect - beautiful pale pink in colour - superb!

RECORD in EX condition

very rarely played - almost no spindle traces

COVER in EX condition

virtually no signs of handling in over 42 years

razor-sharp opening edges - tight seams - no wear

this is the RARE ORIGINAL 1st run sleeve - the ONLY island issue not to have the word STEREO after the catalogue number on the spine - printed and made by E. J. Day of London and Bedford with the almost invisible ‘E. J. DAY’ notation in white to the lower right corner of the ‘pop-up’

On all Island copies, look for the almost invisible printers' name (E.J.Day) in white slightly to the right of Clive Bunker's left foot near the base of the pop-up panel - hours of fun for the whole family!  Incidentally, the scrupulous attention to detail found on those early covers even extended to matching the glued-down base of the 'pop-up' to its floral background!  Such fastidiousness did not extend to the Chrysalis reissues (almost certainly printed by Robor) where the pop-up base was sadly reduced to plain white.  Philistines!

Stand Up was, of course, Island's first (and only) number one LP of the pink label era, a feat which enabled Chrysalis to finally achieve its own label identity.  For more details see ILPS 9123 - Benefit.

 ·  Known Label Variations  1st pink label  2nd pink label  3rd pink label  palm tree label  transferred to green Chrysalis label in July 1973  later re-pressed on all subsequent Chrysalis label designs

Distinguishing features that make these earliest ever 1st UK pressings unique are... The labels that feature the ''Island Eye logo'' are Textured! also the vinyl is the thickest and heaviest you will ever find, in fact the vinyl acually weighs 169 grams!!! Only the earliest (limited amount have (no) mother stampers at 3 & 9 oclock to the matrix very very rare to find!! These also have no other prefix at the end of the matrix just A and B! (later press have for eg A1 or B1!!!

This is a smashing earliest copy of this classic album, hardly seen these days with the PINK/ORANGE/BLACK "EYEBALL" LOGO!!

FROM 1969 WITH THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE A & B MATRICES !!!EXTREMELY RARE ORIGNAL PROG ROCK LP ESPECIALLY IN THIS GREAT CONDITION !!  THE COVER IS THE GREAT UK 1ST PRESS "MATT" FOLD OUT COVER WITH THE GIMMICKS POP-UP OF THE BAND.

In my opinion Tull's best album with Aqualung. Every track is a classic song. standouts for me "We used to know" and "Bourree".

This is Prog GOLD!!!

Please, also have a look at my other prog albums on sale this week.

ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!! VINYL IN A GREAT VG++ to EX CONDITION!!!

!!!!AN IMPOSSIBLE FIND!!! A few hundred of the LP on this earliest label were ever sold as an original!!! This is SOOOOOOOOOOO very rare!!!!!

This has the original lyric insert, that is so often missing. Please have a look at the picture.

****ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER!!!****PERPLEXING SONGCRAFT!!!***AN INSPIRATION TO MANY SUBSEQUENT TOPACTS!!!***

In what was perhaps an intentional tribute to the flourishing woodwind dexterity of the bearded bard, Jimmy Grashow's extraordinarily intricate woodcut artwork curiously depicts Ian Anderson with eleven fingers!  Unusually, perhaps, the beautifully constructed 'pop-up' gatefold cover stayed the course throughout the pink and palm tree label eras and even survived the Chrysalis reissue of July 1973.

In all my years this is only the fourth time I have come across this PROGMONSTER. A few light hairlines do not have any impact on the tremendous audio. Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl: VG++ to EX.  A sensational find!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! These earliest Island presses are built like a Rolls Royce with mighty high groove walls ensuring the best possible audio. I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. Only a few hairlines can be seen under a strong lightsource. The stereo separation is fantastic. Hardly ever any static noise. Fantastic songcraft!  I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection. Of course NO jumps/clicks/skips etc.

Gatefold Sleeve: EX. A stunning sleeve with the pop-up completely intact!! The edges are nice and deadstraight. The spine is 100%. There is just one small name in biro to the back. A lovely sleeve which has kept in beautiful shape after all of 42 years. One small corner crease. This is as good as it gets!!!!

Labels: EX. These are the very earliest TEXTURED labels. Impossible to find these days and all are now in major collections.

***This is a unique prime investment opportunity!!! Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible!!! This is  a great and seriously collectable super album!!  You will buy into a piece of  prog core history.***

This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next psych album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.

Important : International postage will be registered and insured if over GBP 41.00.  Please wait for my invoice before paying. Postage will be according to Royal Mail rates. Postage is NOT a money spinning exercise for me.

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly!  PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST,  if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one!  I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem!  This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees  and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem.  Thanks again!!

This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
