These sides were recorded by Alan Lomax at the Library of Congress in
Washington D.C. in May, June & December 1938.
They were issued by Circle Records as a set of 45 12" Vinylite records
presented in 12 separate binders. Sold on a subscription basis, the original
cost was a staggering $120 and the first sets were shipped in late 1947.
It seems that the initial pressing was limited to 250 sets but it's likely
that at least 350 sets were finally issued, based on the handwritten
Limited Edition numbers assigned to each volume.
