"Knocking round the Zoo" was taken from James Taylor's debut LP on Apple. It was only released on 45 in France and Portugal (in different picture sleeves in each country) and is extemely rare and very hard to find.
Taylor became the first non-British act signed to Apple, and he began recording his first proper album at the same time that The Beatles’ were working on The White Album.
During the sessions which also featured ex-Flying Machine drummer Joel “Bishop” O’Brien, Paul McCartney brought in noted jazz arranger and trumpeter, Richard Hewson to orchestrate many of the links that tie the songs together, creating a unique listening experience.
"Knocking round the Zoo" was one of the songs specifically written about his stay at McLean Hospital, and it features a superb swingin’ sixties horn chart. While the lyrics of the song are dead serious – “Just knocking around the zoo on a Thursday afternoon, There’s bars on all the windows and they’re counting up the spoons, yeah. And if I’m feeling edgy, there’s a chick who’s paid to be my slave, yeah, watch out James. But she’ll hit me with a needle If she thinks I’m trying to misbehave” – Taylor’s sly delivery and use of slang is most humorous.
The grading standard used is the UK Record Collector magazine gradings as described below
Mint
The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent
The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Shipping All items are sent securely packaged in purpose made mailers with 2 cardboard stiffners, the record inserted in a brand new polythene sleeve & the record removed from the outer sleeve , to ensure they reach you in the condition they were when dispatched. UK Buyers qualify for FREE P&P. International Buyers only pay the extra costs incurred above the UK rates, so that they also get the benefit of the savings UK buyers get with FREE P&P (as this only seems fair) UK Packages are sent 2nd class Signed For, as there appears to be only a minor difference in delivery times between 1st & 2nd class which the additional charge does not seem to warrant. International Packages are sent by a trackable/insured service (Royal Mail Airsure) I aim to dispatch all packages within one day of payment, and update the status on to Ebay either on the day of dispatch or the following day, so that you are fully aware of the progress of dispatched items. Return Policy Returns are accepted in the unlikely event that the record does not match the grading given and it is returned in the condition sent and in packaging comparable to that which it was sent in.
