Up for auction is a very nice copy of the Jackie McLean album "One Step Beyond" released on Blue Note Records (BST 84137) in 1963. This is an original, first pressing with "Vangelder" and the "ears" pressed in the dead wax, and New York USA labels. Address on back cover is 43 West 61st St. New York 23. Comes with original Blue Note paper inner sleeve. The cover is well-preserved retaining much of its original laminate gloss. No obvious ring wear, no seam splits, no writing anywhere. Lower left corner shows some chip and rubbing loss, as does the lower edge to a lesser degree. Upper left corner slightly bumped. Lower right corner shows a slight crease that's hard to see. Back cover is a beautiful bone white, no writing or ring wear. A factory stamp "E" in upper right corner. Overall, I'd grade this cover EX (Excellent). The vinyl looks to be very clean. Very few signs of previous handling or play. A few very superficial signs of having been taken out of paper inner sleeve, and a few very faint marks along outer edge that don't affect play. Play tested, and overall it sounds very nice. Some faint surface noise here and there, but nothing that distracts from the music. Generally, its a very clean, strong sounding record. Not audiophile clean, but what original pressings are? I'd grade the vinyl EX (Excellent). Overall, a very presentable and enjoyable copy of this rare title.
