In Order To Dance 5 VINYL BOX SET - Superb condition! Minty vinyl - Very scarce edition
1994's In Order to Dance, Vol. 5 captures the label's pinnacle as the global outpost for techno that was both creative as well as dancefloor-friendly before their steady decline during the mid- to late '90s when techno slowly fell out of favor with the masses. In addition to being loaded from the opening track of the first disc to the concluding track of the second with exciting techno songs still worthy of acclaim, the compilation also took the pains to feature artists from all over the world. Carl Craig, 69, and Kenny Larkin represent the sounds of Detroit techno; µ-Ziq, Aphex Twin, Dave Angel, and Luke Slater represent the U.K.; Quadrant and Phylyps represent the Basic Channel-affiliated Berlin sound; and the remaining artists represent other areas of Northeastern Europe. Not only does this compilation read like a historical document of techno circa 1994 but it also reaffirms the significance of R&S as quite possibly the most important -- or at least influential -- electronic music label during this era. No single tracks stand out as all offer some noteworthy characteristics that would eventually get recycled in successive years as techno splintered into its many different styles. Anyone considering this album may also want to consider the Vintage R&S series of albums, which take a broader view of the label from its earliest beginnings to its latter material, featuring most of these artists and a few of these same songs. Also keep in mind that most if not all of these songs have become increasingly difficult to track down.
