    Born in Philadelphia on 7th June 1943,from very early on he wanted to be a singer and even made his first guitar, which was a pick-up box, which he put together and would play around his home.His first real break into music came when he got together with some school friends at Matthew Gilbert High School in Jacksonville to start a group called the Stereophonics,(leader of the group Lloyd Perry).It wasn’t long before the Stereophonics started working in the nightclubs around St Augustine and Jacksonville areas. They covered the hits of the day sometimes in acapella doo-wop style or with a band. His opportunity to properly learn guitar came one night when the resident guitarist didn't turn up for a Stereophonics gig and Hermon was thrust into the limelight. Next day, he went out and bought a guitar and asked Walter Johnson to show him how to play.
     By the late 50’s, Hermon wanted to grow more as an artist and felt that he should form his own band so he started a group called the Rockin’ Tonics.The group consisted of 6 pieces including Nat Jones on drums, who was originally from Ohio and later played with James Brown. The Rockin’ Tonics spent the next 2 years playing the Atlanta club scene and built up a strong following. Hermon got his first break into recording through his friendship with Arthur whose group the Corvettes at that time were very hot in Atlanta.Wallace Spann, Arthur’s manager offered Hermon the chance to record for his Royal label and took him into the GRC recording studios in Atlanta where Hermon cut his first 45.
     This period of creativity began with the opportunity of working for a friend of Lee Moses called Johnny Brantley.It was during this time that Hermon met Jimi Hendrix who was in town with the Isley Brothers and he was hanging out with the DJ Gorgeous George. Gorgeous George introduced Hermon to Hendrix and Hendrix sat in on a number of the tracks which Hermon was laying down for the proposed album.
      By 1967, Hermon was going up to New York to work on tracks Brantley had already laid down. These include probably his most famous 45 on the Northern scene – “Yes You Did” This song and “Better To Have Loved” were written by the song-writing team of Lewis, Farmer and Lewis who had given a demo of the song to Johnny Brantley after being introduced by friends of Lee Moses. The backing tracks had already been laid down by the Ohio Players when Hermon entered the Bell Sound Studios on West 54th Street to record his tortured vocals on these classic tracks with both tracks being were licensed to Minit Records.
     This rare and beautiful collector looks to have never been play with no wear.This is a true vinyl treasure,especially in this near mint condition.          (Near Mint)
