"'I have one Sinfonie' professed Hermann Nitsch identifying with Bruckner who made a similar claim of his symphonic output. For comparison, La Monte Young has a similar concept, for example, The Tortoise, His Dreams, and Journey's from 1964 -- eternity, with each realization, the piece never ends; it's a continuation. Professionally recorded in 1990 in Vienna and realized by a professional orchestra, the 8th Sinfonie by Hermann Nitsch is a triumphantly charged live performance by Ensemble 20 Jahrhundert, the Hugo Distler Choir, a Blasorchester (Brass Band), and Noise Orchestra. The music reminds a lot the experimental scene of the 70's from musique concrete and electronic music, Conrad Schnitzler and Die Todliche Doris. The 8th Sinfonie was produced to commemorate the 62nd Birthday of the Viennese Actionist founder Hermann Nitsch.

Hermann Nitsch or the "bloody painter", famous for his "splatter" painting techniques or the "pope" of viennese aktionism(together with Gunther Brus, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Otto Muehl), reformed modern art during the 60's/70's. His legendary performances with paganistic elements, nudity, animal sacrifice, drinking excess have been recorded as something really exceptional and controversial in the history of art. Close to Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik, Yoshi Wada and Marcel Duchamp, Kurt Schwitters, Jean Dubuffet, Milan Knizak and of course Yoko Ono, Walter Marchetti or the sound art of Paul Panhuysen, Harry Bertoia and the indeterminacy of John Cage. His musical "talents" are cultivated in parallel and include his founding of "Selten gehorte Musik" with Dieter Roth, Oswald Wiener and Gerhard Ruhm, but also his preparing some rather "ritual" or experimental music for his aktionist performances, mainly issued on vinyl during the 70's, but some appeared on CD also recently. This one is one of his most experimental works!! Highly recommended!!

Cover and vinyl lie in mint-/new condition, this copy had been ordered from the label and kept in a safe place until now. Just impossible to find original!! For those into Pierre Henry, text sound compositions and the Nurse with wound list of influences!
