LP: Herb Geller - An American In Hamburg/The View From Here

Original German 2 LP-pressing from 1975 on NOVA Records, 6.28332(DX), deepgrooved yellow label. The beautiful gatefold-cover has an integrated booklet with linernotes in German and English.

This is the original double album, there are vocal versions on the first LP and instrumental versions on the second LP. On the instrumental sides there is one extra track, all instrumental versions are newly played/recorded in different lengths, it’s not just the vocal tracks being remixed ! This 2 LP-set is a German only release, only the first (vocal tracks) side has been released (in minor pressing quality) in the USA.

Line-up: Herb Geller (alto sax, tenor sax, soprano sax, soprano, alto & bass flute); Palle Mikkelborg (trumpet), Rob Franken (electric piano, arp synthesizer); Wolfgang Schlüter (vibraphon & percussion); Gottfried Böttger (moog synthesizer, string organ, clarinet); Philip Catherine (guitar), Hans-Lucas Lindholm (bass); Alex Riel (drums); Earl Jordan (vocals), Mark Murphy (vocals)

Outstanding record, every track is a winner: contains several clubtunes and dancefloor jazztracks, tons of mini-moog and rhodes backed by Alex Riel’s tight drumming (it`s him playing on S.Shihab & The Danish Radio Jazz Group !), both vocalists are in top form. Probably H.Geller’s funkiest period, in wich he was playing (and also recording for MPS) with P.Herbolzheimer’s Rhythm Combination, at the same time he was part of the second CATCH UP record on CALIG with M.Greger jr. and M.Pilar. Pretty rare record & highly recommended, you can listen to most of the tracks on youtube !

Condition: both records looks & play in mint-. The cover shows just slightest shelfwear, all seams/spine are intact with just a hint of slightest rub in a few spots parts; front, back, inner & booklet are fine with just a hint of faint ringwear ; overall mint-

Zustand: die beiden LPs sind optisch & akkustisch in mint-. Das Cover hat nur ganz leichte Lagerspuren, alle Kanten sind intakt mit ganz leichtem Abrieb an einigen wenigen Stellen ( mehr an der unteren Kante); Vorder- und Rückseite, Inneres mit Booklet sind super-schön erhalten mit ganz dezentem ringwear; insgesamt in mint- .

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
