Grateful Dead "U.S. Blues" (mono) / "U.S. Blues" (stereo) original USA 45 rpm promotional phonograph record, Grateful Dead Records GD45-03 (GD4504AM/S) D.J., with picture sleeve. The record has black-and-white promotional labels, with an illustration of two crows on branches, white "Grateful Dead", white perimeter print, and both silver and black print text. Both labels are clean, with no writing on either side. There is mono version on one side, and a stereo version on the other side. The full-length version (3:12) is on both sides. This is the rare promotional issue of the third single released on Grateful Dead Records. The Grateful Dead was an American rock band, formed in 1965 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band was known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, psychedelia, jazz, blues, reggae, R&B, soul, folk, country, and bluegrass music. Psychedelic rock began with The Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead originally featured Rod "Pigpen" McKernan (lead vocals, harmonica, keyboards, percussion), Jerry Garcia (lead guitar, banjo), Bob Weir (rhythm guitar), Phil Lesh (bass guitar), and Bill Kreutzmann (drums). The Grateful Dead members shared in the vocal performance of songs. Robert Hunter wrote the majority of the songs for The Grateful Dead. Mickey Hart (drums) joined The Grateful Dead in 1967, giving the band two drummers. Keith Godchaux (keyboards, grand piano) joined the Grateful Dead in 1971. In early 1972, Keith's wife, Donna Jean Godchaux, joined the Grateful Dead as a backing vocalist. Rod "Pigpen" McKernan died in 1973, at the age of 27. Keith and Donna Jean left the band in 1979. Keith Godchaux died in an automobile accident in 1980. Brent Mydland (keyboards, vocals) joined the Grateful Dead in 1979, and was with the band until his death in 1990. Vince Welnick (keyboards, vocals) joined the Grateful Dead in 1990. From September 15, 1990 to March 24, 1992, Bruce Hornsby played piano with The Grateful Dead; Hornsby had previously appeared as a sit-in player beginning in 1988, and continued as such from 1992 until 1995. Jerry Garcia died in 1995, at the age of 53. Vince Welnick died in 2006. "U.S. Blues" was released in the United States, in 1974. "U.S. Blues" was written by Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia. The record comes in a white poly-lined die-cut paper sleeve. The picture sleeve (GD-4503) is in near mint condition. The picture sleeve comes in a clear protective sleeve. BONUS: One complete set of original Round Records promotional cards. Round Records premiered in 1975 with four LP album releases, all featuring at least one member of the Grateful Dead. The four promotional cards are each five-and-one-fourth inches tall, by five-and-one-fourth inches wide (square). These promotional cards are actually cardboard minis of the fronts of the album covers; the backs of the cards are white.
