Description
A collection of original George Formby 78 records with a fully functioning vintage wind-up cabinet gramophone to play them on. Formby tracks include:
‘Chinese Blues’ (x2), ‘Window Cleaner’ (x2), ‘Leaning on a Lamp Post’ (x2), ‘Do De O Do’, ‘Rhythm in the Alphabet’, ‘I did what I could with my gas mask’, ‘Our Sergeant Major’, ‘Hi-Tiddly Hi Ti Island’, ‘Keep Your Seats Please’, ‘Tan Tan Tivvy Tally Ho’, ‘You’ll be far better off in a home’ and my favourite, the very rude ‘I wonder who’s under her balcony now’. Nine double-sided Formby 78s in total.
Gramophone comes with 3 vintage tins of spare needles (loud and mellow tones) in original packaging (c. 300 needles) & an original green felt record cleaner.
The U-Phone cabinet gramophone ("Leeds Patent") is finished in an oak veneer and dates to the late 1920s / early 1930s. Good condition (see photos). Height = 90 cm (35½”) Width = 43 cm (17”) Depth = 50 cm (19¾”).
Sound box diaphragm has been professionally restored. The wind up handle is detachable and the sound is rich and percussive, excellent for deciphering Formby's split / fan stroke uke playing!

Postage:
Due to weight (records = 12kg and gramophone = 19kg) postage will be expensive - I have obtained a quote for £12 for the records and £36 for the gramophone. However, the risk with postage is the possibility of damage to the carefully balanced gramophone mechanism and the 78s, which if dropped will shatter.
Ideally winning bidder will collect in person from Oxford, UK or arrange a courier pick up. I am able to travel up to 70 miles from Oxford with the gramophone and records to assist with free delivery.
